| | | Ancient (?) Oak Tree
I have recently realised that this tree may well be an ancient one. The girth has been measured at 5m 50cm, and I have recorded it with the Woodland Trust at The Woodland Trust | Take part in the Ancient Tree Hunt with the Woodland Trust The grid reference for it is TQ58148013, should anyone want to visit it.

| | | Re: Ancient (?) Oak Tree What a lovely tree. When you go back (as you will probably do, as once you find a tree it sort of becomes "yours") get someone to stand next the trunk and photograph it again. It will give everyone an idea of the girth. 5.5m is a big un... but sometimes it's hard to imagine the scale.
Thanks for posting this. I love big old ugly trees!

I'm glad you like "my" tree, Tigger. Here's a couple more images for you to salivate over The flooding occurred just a week after the snow at the beginning of Feb. I then had to wait a while before I could get close enough to to measure it and take the photo of the trunk, which hopefully gives a better idea of the size. This tree is clearly visible from the eastbound carriageway of the A13, as the road crosses the Mardyke valley, immediatly after jct 31 (M25). You can't stop though as it is a clearway.
Unfortunatly, although it stands in an open field, it's not that easy to get close to. (unless you know the shortcut)

| | | Re: Ancient (?) Oak Tree Thanks for the info. It's amazing how these trees manage to survive. They really do get everything chucked at them... snow, rain, flood, heat.... and still they grow! |

| | | Re: Ancient (?) Oak Tree Have you got any photos of the Chestnut? There are some Sweet Chestnuts close to me that are on the Woodland Trust site, but I dont have any photos of them yet.
