A monster volume (+ pricey) is the superb Cassell's Trees of Britain + Northern Europe with over 1800 species +cultivars- by More/White
Previously used various Alan Mitchell guides; also a good read is this late tree expert's Trees of Britain.
The Tree Book by Edward Milner was in conjunction with a Channel 4 series + lots of interesting stuff.
Woodlands- Oliver Rackham- New Naturalist volume
Agree about Reader's Digest guide- a lovely series of books
There's a few to be going on with! |

| | | Re: Books About Trees careful with Oliver Rackam's book - it is very far from a field guide!
Its a description of ancient woods, and how they have evolved
over the centuries in relation to social history.
Fascinating stuff, but a bit more than a casual read. He does
courses at the FSCs (Field Studies Council)
which are well worth doing, but he is the
very epitome of the mad one-track-minded mad professor | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
