| | | Yew tree fruit Has anyone else noticed how little fruit there is on Yew trees this year. Last year I sat in the car and watched the birds feeding on the red fruits but this year that tree and others have little or no fruits on them. Just a bad year for Yew?

Just a bad year for Yew? | Haven't noticed yew, mainly 'coz there;s none in the places I usually frequent, but other fruits seem more abundant e.g. blackberries, sloes, elder berry. |

| | | I noticed a Yew tree in Ramsey (Cambridgeshire) on Saturday that seems to have plenty of fruits. Yew is not particularly a northern plant - it's pretty scarce in north Scotland. Maybe it's just local conditions that cause such variations. My Bramley apple trees are laden.

| | | We were in Winchester over the weekend, Yews in the Cathedral grounds had a lot of fruit, but Yews only fruit on the female, you could pick out the males in amongst the females.
In the park the Blackberries have totally failed but Bullace (Damsons) and various Apples are well laden with fruit. No Blackberry jam this year. |

| | | Blackberries Blacknberries in Salisbury are as abundant as they've ever been - if not more so! We've been pickingb them for about 3 weeks now. In fact, it's difficult to consume them fast enough. I ade two Summer Fruit Tarts this weekend, using the recipe that was in this week's Daily Mail 'Weekend' magazine. Delicious! |

| | | Blackberry Wine Never tried making this; but the best wine I ever made was the first time I ever tried making wine straight from the fruit, and this was damson .
Hmm I've got quite a few blackberries left over. Perhaps I should freeze these with a view to making some wine at the weekend. |

| | | Yes Mike I am aware that Yew has male trees and female trees. The thing that I have noticed is that although there is some fruit on the female tree it is not so abundant as in past years. Most other species seem to be over laden with fruit. It just made me wonder why.
