| | | Tree Book. Can anyone recommend me a pocketsize tree recognition book that I can take out in the field with me ? I know the more familiar tree types but I'd like to broaden my knowledge.
Thanks, WB. |

It's about A5 size and 3cms thick so not too big to carry around.

| | | Re: Tree Book. Two cheaper tomes to consider are
Trees by Allen J. Coombes, published by Dorling Kindersley at £9.99
Collins Complete British Trees by Paul Sterry, pub. by Collins at £14.99
I picked up the latter, remaindered in The Works for £5.99 and favour it above the former for the quality of images.
Both have their strong points. |

Jeff | I'll second that. The collins tree guide is very good and you can take it out with you its not to big. Its quite comprehensive there is a guide to leaf shape in the beginning of the book that can help point you in the right direction. There is even a small section on winter shoots to help guide you when the leaves have fallen.

"The essential photographic guide to Britain's trees".
"The most complete guide to the trees and shrubs ofBritain".
A5 size, 320 pages, paperback,
Got a copy of this from a branch of "The Works" - they still have them available at my local branch (no pun intended) for £4.99 - Bargain.
(They also have Collins Complete British Wildflowers & Collins British Wildlife at the same price).

regards mark....... | I've acquired many tree books over the years- but I agree this is the best one for taking into the field- it is extremely comprehensive + the illustrations + text are first class, including many cultivars as well as species. |
