| | | Trees for ID I visited today the site that once was BAE Systems, Stanmore. The site was sold for housing development and this was my first visit since retiring in 2003.
I was pleased to see at least two of the trees that were present when this was a working site. I used to know the names of these trees but I am afraid I have forgotten  .

The second tree was just outside the reception block. I guess these have been protected during rebuilding because there is a preservation order on them. I would like to think though that the builders kept them for their majestic looks. they certainly are in keeping with the new environment.

| | | Re: Trees for ID The second one is, I believe, Deodar ( Cedrus deodara), another native of the Middle East quite often planted in parks & large gardens for its' graceful shape.
The cedars are a difficult trio to seperate, though - there's a great deal of individual variation and some experts even class them as all varieties of the same species |

I don't think number 2 is Deodar - I'd be happy to go with Atlas, but I am no expert. |

Tree 1 is unnamimously agreed to be Cedar of Lebanon
Tree 2 is generally accepted to be Atlas Cedar
I shall stick with these names unless I hear from any of you disagreeing.
