| | | Rowan Tree I have a young Rowan tree that i got free at the Highland Show but i am unsure where to plant it. I have a front and a back garden, with the front being less protected from the wind, but the back being a little more cut off as its a court yard of a steading. Also the back is over looked my other houses and im not sure in a few years time they will appreciate a tree there!
Any thoughts? |

| | | Re: Rowan Tree Hi Amylou, we have a Rowan tree in our front garden about twenty feet from the house, which has been there for 13 years and is still only about 12 feet tall. I think they are fairly slow growing. Watch the root system, as I had to pull some large surface roots out as they were starting to encroach on the house.

| | | Re: Rowan Tree Trees can be kept in control by pruning - like a hedge - so your neighbours should have no problems. The rowan is a small tree though (10 m), so maybe it will be ok.
But I've seen it growing in some very exposed places. I may be ok out front too. |

| | | Re: Rowan Tree Rowan is tough and small, and if you plant it by your garden gate it WILL keep witches out. I have one by the gate, never had a witch in the garden or house for 20 years! (on that basis, also effective for lions, tigers, buffalo, beavers, elephants. Only registered as helpful for witches).
Beautiful trees, foliage, flowers and berries all very attractive. |

| | | Re: Rowan Tree Our Rowan has its feet in clay, many of the roots are up near the surface
it is around 15+ feet tall and is around 20 years old it has a Gold Heart Ivy growing up it and it attracts birds like a magnet, many roost overnight
(wood pigeons especially) a google earth image shows this and the Weeping Birch to be the prominent features which may account for my suprising variety of bird visitors
