Odd 'things' on Lime tree
I was out a'strolling a while back and took some photos of what I could presume to be larvae of something.









Any thoughts?

They are scale insects Nick, I have seen them before but do not know much more about them. Perhaps worth and internet search...?

Yes, the mature or dead females of the 'horse chestnut' scale, Pulvinaria regalis. Most commonly seen on limes and maples but has been found on about 89 tree/shrub species in UK.

Is pretty ugly sometimes but does provide food for the pine ladybird, Exochomus quadripustulatus which seems to control the scale in most cases.
