| | | Old Trees around Harrogate/Knaresborogh I don't if anyone can help but I'm looking for somebody with some knowledge of any old trees around the Harrogate/knaresborough (North Yorks) area. I'm currently working on a small photography project and would like to feature old trees in some of the work. Many thanks.
Oh... if anyone can point me to a resource which would tell me where any are that would be useful too.
Send me a personal message if you prefer.
Also I don't plan to publicise locations - just photgraph them as 'old trees'. |

| | | Re: Old Trees around Harrogate/Knaresborogh Hi
we had a talk a couple of months ago at our natural history society about ancient trees.I think there is a body (can't remember which) that is trying to log all the ancient trees so they can be protacted. If you get in touch with your local Wildlife Trust they may be able to advise you.
Sorry I can't be more specific.

| | | Re: Old Trees around Harrogate/Knaresborogh Dear Sometimes,
Not far from Harrogate is Ripley Castle (check opening times). There are some colossal veteran trees there (Pedunculate Oak and Sweet Chestnut). Using a rather complicated mathematical method I got from the Forestry Commission, I dated one huge oak and found it was possibly planted in the 12th century.
To see the trees, you need to do the 'Deer Park Walk', which is available on a leaflet there.

| | | Re: Old Trees around Harrogate/Knaresborogh Thanks for your feedback on the trusts.
On Ripley Castle - thanks for the tip - as it happens Ripley Castle is the wrong side of my self imposed boundary, however, I'll give it a look anyway and there may be a tree or two on the right side!
