| | Help Identifying a Tree
Sorry it's such a poor quality shot, I'm hoping the vivid autumn foliage will be enough to identify this species of commonly planted municipal landscape tree.
cheers

| | | Re: Help Identifying a Tree Sorry, but cant ID this one without seeing a leaf.
A lot of maples show a vivid colour this time of year, maybe its one of them?
Maybe theres an expert around who could better ID this one.

| | | Re: Help Identifying a Tree Yes, various Acer species go red in autumn - mainly American species. However, I've also seen one with very narrow leaves like an Ash - doe some Fraxinus also turn red?
I've often asked this but why is it that North American woodlands are much more colourful than European ones in autumn? Someone once offered a reasonably good explanation but I've forgotten |

| | | Re: Help Identifying a Tree I'll nab a leaf and get a pic up. They are very much like an Ash but finer. Not like a Maple at all. Thanks for responding. |

| | | Re: Help Identifying a Tree Could it be a Sorbus (Mountain Ash)? We have a Sorbus Joseph Rock in the garden here. The leaves have turned an amazing colour, similar to that - Were there any berries or fruit of any kind on that tree ? Joshph Rock has white berries, the Thrushes love them, it's the only time we see them in the back garden. |

| | | Re: Help Identifying a Tree Back again, just had a look round the garden with the camera.
From the shape of the tree I would initially have said it was and Acer platanoides Here is one in the garden "Drummondii", although it has lost it's leaves now, you can see the shape. Fruit and leaves of Acer platanoides `Crimson King' which has the most amazing autumn colour. But from looking as close as I can to the photo example I still wonder if it is a Sorbus ...... Leaf of Sorbus Joseph Rock Fruit of Sorbus Joseph Rock. The only thing puzzling me is the fact that there is no fruit visable on the photo? |

| | | Re: Help Identifying a Tree Thanks for the feedback, I would say it's definitely an Ash of some description, I took a look at the bark earlier and it's the same as the native species, it has to be an imported variant. Once the photo of the leaf has been approved I'll post a link.
Cheers
