When you get a chance have a check through the thread on dA given at the end of this entry. It's about the recall of cat and dog food in the US. Several of the products are available in the UK too. The main culprit available here being Eukenuba and Iams. These companies knew for a full two weeks that a batch of food had been poisoned before recalling their products. Many Cats and Dogs in the US have suffered because of it.
If you have a pet, just to be on the safe side, please do check though the list. Fortunately we use Royal Canin ourselves and that's safe. We've avoided Eukenuba and Iams for a long time since they were flagged by Peta.
Hills are recalling some of their wet foods (it seems the identified problem products are confined to wet foods at the moment) just to be safe but there is no issue with their products as yet.
Obviously the same applies to anyone without pets who puts out food for
Hedgehogs or Foxes etc. They'd be just as much at risk.
It may not affect what's on sale in the UK but I wouldn't take the chance myself. Anyway here's the info as provided by a Journal entry on dA. There are links from there to product lists and further information.
