Peter Taylor RE-WILDING

Hi folks....
Im a little brain dead as today we had Peter Taylor ( RE-WILDLING, Author of BEYOND CONSERVATION and leader of ECOS) visit us at college/Uni for a 4 hour Lecture/seminar/presentation

What an amazing guy !! very very interesting stuff whatever your views are on his way of thinking and his RE- WILDING ideas. I havent read the book yet ( Just bought one which he has signed...first edition hardback too ! lovely ) but although a few arguments and issues were raised on the whole im all for his ideas?.

Either way it was refreshing for me as a student in my first year to finally spend 4 hours in the company of someone with so much knowledge and experience !!

His views on the Global Warming swindle were interesting too !

But im absolutely shattered now

Dan

Re: Peter Taylor RE-WILDING

i don't know about the other thread, still being a newbie, and there's too many too read them all. i'd never catch up

i've been having a read of his book though, and its pretty easy going. there's some interesting arguments in it and it seems to be relatively well reasearched and thought out.
there are a few deficiencies in his theory though, i think, but i'm by no means an expert on any of it.

sarah

p.s. i sympathise with the feeling though. we used to call it 'the numbskull factor' because it felt like someone had sapped all the ability to think and function coherently out of your head. Jane Goodall had much the same effect when she came to speak at UCLAN!

Re: Peter Taylor RE-WILDING

this is the other thread I mentioned Re: Re-wilding

btw I didnt mean to imply that we shouldnt discuss this as it had already been discussed or anything like that - I just meant to say that earthheart had a lot of knowledge and resources about this so if you have any related coursework dan he would be a good guy to contact - there are some interesting weblinks on that thread too

well...you can't have it!! worked my fingers to the bone for this job. 2 years of digital mapping on a voluntary basis. it is a wicked career to be in though. especially in the summer when i'm basically out surveying farms for 'bio-diversity' in the blazing sunshine and leading walks, also in the blazing sunshine.

not so much fun in the winter when you're out in the rain though. or the snow. or hail. and you definitely need wellies

ha! wish more blokes thought like you!

feel free to pester with questions about my job....its really not as glamorous as it sounds if i'm surveying livestock farms i always smell vaguely like dairy cows afterwards. and you can't beat surveying arable farms in spring...boxing hare season!

oooh. glad i'm not doing your course. it sounds like hard work! the college farm at my old ag college, myerscough, is truly stinky. i never had to anything more strenuous than wander around teesdale...those were the days, lazing in the lakes in summer, id-ing flowers and watching the buzzards soar....

thinking i might have to go to the lakes this weekend
