Why do people do this?

I think I would end up in the chokey if I ever came into contact with these three characters;
BBC NEWS | England | Coventry/Warwickshire | Duck shot in head with crossbow

Can anyone tell me what drives these morons to behave like this?

Re: Why do people do this?

its because they are .... well i cant say what i really think they are but shall we say because they are deeply pathetic individuals with no real bottle who want to make out that they are manly when in fact they are deeply inadequate - Oh he shot a duck , i am impressed

i also do feel that there ought to be tighter controls on crossbow sales - the current situation where virtually anyone over the age of 14, and thats assuming that they check the age at all, can buy one is patently ridiculous

On our local news, two men had killed two Swans and its thought they were going to eat them.

Re: Why do people do this?

thats bad , but at least its kind of understandable - though most people prefer to go to tescos

the kids with the duck by all accounts just did it for the crack, and that is just totally brainless - i'd like to stuff his crossbow right up......

Happens where I live too. Usually young ones showing off in front of their mates.

Re: Why do people do this?

I'm a firm believer that people who commit these dispicable acts of cruelty against wildlife should have the same thing done to them in return. I know that will never happen but that's how I would handle it. It would make others think twice. I agree, it's ridiculous that a 14 yr old kid can buy a crossbow, doesn't say much about law and order in this country, but then again, as I've said before, the government does live in cloud cuckoo land.

Re: Why do people do this?

Quite simple really.........boredom but if we get the perpetrators with the same weapon, wouldn't there be an outcry and a court case to face???

Aha, 11th commandment applies here: "Though shalt not get caught"

Re: Why do people do this?

licence all owners of crossbows and air rifles (i think at least one party in scotland is advocating this). seems mad to me i can, with little problem buy a weapon like a crossbow or a powerful airgun. it wont stop incidents of cruelty but it should make them rarer.

I'm not at all sure why anyone other than organised target shooters would need a crossbow in the UK.
They are not particularly effective as a 'one shot kill' weapon for hunting as is evident by the amount of news stories over the last few years relating to badly injured animals with a bolt through the head or neck which have not been killed outright and left to suffer.
I am a real softie when it comes to my pet animals, but I am realistic enough to understand that some people enjoy hunting (not hunting with hounds) and usually eat the meat they have killed. Providing they do it cleanly and quickly I can accept it, but this would rarely happen with a crossbow. It strikes me it's just another idiot idea from across the Atlantic...
