| | | Spelling Issues Why does the "Wild About Britain" use an English/American spell checker. I just noticed it the other day when I wrote neighbour and it was underlined red and advised me to spell it neighbor?

People who have difficulty with spelling are just as entitled to an opinion as everyone else.
-> <-See the smiley. I'm not being grumpy, but very often I discover children who are intensely creative, but unable to put their ideas down on paper through fear of not being able to spell the rich flow of words in their heads.
I apologise if my spelling ever offends anyone who loves words. I try very hard, and don't think I do too badly, although can't always tell. I love words with a passion. They just don't always stay in the same shape in my head, that's all.

Should you wish to donate to the charity to allow them to invest in an English one I am sure they would have no objection.
You can do so here > http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/online_donation |

I was editing almost every post!
I still correct when I see the wrong word used, but otherwise there's little point these days. Our kids have an entirely different language they use on web sites so we're fighting a loosing battle if we wish to retain "perfect" English, whatever that may be! Life's too short to bother! |

| | | Re: Spelling Issues To answer the original question, I imagine he's installed the ieSpell option. By default that uses a US dictionary. If you right mouse click when checking, go to options, and then to Language and Dictionaries, you can change it to the UK version, so no more neighbors! |

| | Re: Spelling Issues Ok, slightly off thread but if 'words' accounts for 7% of communication (55% is 'visual', 38% is 'vocal' and 10% is 'innumeracy' ) then how much extra do smilies add to the 'words' percentage |

| | | Re: Spelling Issues I feel really stupid when I notice my own mistakes in my posts. Usually due to being excited and desperate to have my say. If I use preview I manage to pick up on most of them.
It doesn't bother when I see other peoples mistakes, hearing bad speech and grammar annoys me much more. |
