| | | Yarner wood Hi guys i am planning to go to Yarner wood in Devon tommorow (mainly for the LSW's as i am told they have a very good population of them). I was just wondering if anyone has been and areas to reccomend visiting e.g where the hides are and species to look out for.
Thanks very much

| | | Re: Yarner wood I went last year and remember seeing quite a few pied flycatchers (it was in May) as well as several other woodland birds such as blackcaps, treecreepers and nutchatches. I didn't see LSWs but I understsand they are there. There is at least one hide (across the stream from the carpark and up the hill) which overlooked a flycatcher nestbox which was frequently visited. |

Get your camera batteries charged up and head over the steam and up the hill to the hide.
There are several bird feeders outside which give some great close views of many of the common woodland birds. As for LSW, this is the only place I've seen one, they are very elusive. Have a chat to the warden if you see him, he's a top bloke and will let you know the best place to go.
All in all a great place but the light can be awkward when shotting from the hide.
Heres one I took last autumn, full frame at 400mm
Have a good day

| | | Re: Yarner wood Hi guys i have just got back from yaner. It is a top place but unfortunately rather lacking in birds today . The hide was brilliant though and i stayed in it for about half an hour which provided great views of a nuthatch. Unfortunately very camera shy. Anyway as i live locally i am making it a place to go regularly. Thanks for your tips guys. |
