Fascinating facts and wise wildlife words!

Badgers bury their dead, apparently with some ceremony and display of grief.

If you ate the liver from a polar bear, you would die of iodine poisoning.

Monkies can't play golf because the limited use of their thumb prevents them from employing the Vardon grip

Re: Fascinating facts and wise wildlife words!

During the Great Plague of 1665, people used to strap live chickens with their back ends (hope that is ok for the census!) against the buboids as a cure. (But there is a naturally occuring antibiotic in a chicken's digestive tract, so there may have been some benefit.)
Well, I suppose there was no telly!

Apparently there are no snakes in Ireland, because St. Patrick banished them all.
Talking of St. Patrick's Night, we've got a gig in the Neptune at Whitstable, if any of you are near by! Irish, Cajun, and Rock'n Roll!

Rabbits and Cows still use their appendixes to digest cellulose, whereas it passes through humans untouched. (as roughage.)

Long-tailed tits make a round nest, about the size of a tennis ball, out of spiders web silk and mosses. As the chicks grow inside the nest, the nest expands too!

Polar bears and cats is the only unbiodegradable poo in the world.

Fancy Badgers bury their dead.

I wonder how many of these facts are true?

Earthworm dung contains five times more nitrogen, seven times more phosphorus, eleven times more potassium, and a thousand times more beneficial bacteria than the material the earthworm initially ate.
The world’s largest earthworm, found in South Africa, was twenty-two feet long; the Australian Gippsland earthworm grows to twelve feet and can weigh a pound and a half.

Hi Jaki,
Sorry I can't help with you're question, but apparently an octopus
will eat it's own arms if it gets really hungry

The saying 'bald as a coot' stems from the coot's white frontal plate

and Did you know.....
The name “toadstool” might make you think that toadstools got their name from being a piece of amphibian poo, but in fact “tod-stuhl” is a German name, which means “seat of death”!
