| | | Re: petition to stop government banning photography in public places if you go to the site you can get to the goverment pettition main site and it tells you what petitions are running, and the govt replies to other finished petitions. this is a government site and was set up by the government (presumably to judge the feelings of the public) however reading about it in a daily paper it looks like the government has shot itself in the foot this time by allowing online petitions
obviously it is your perogative not to add your name to the petition, but every name helps to stop this political correctness going way to far.
ok if they do manage to restrict photography in public places where does it end....zoos?..parks....pics of family on holiday....taking pics of birds out on the moors...your guess will be as good as mine.

All the bloke that started the petition says is this -- More details from petition creator There are a number of moves promoting the requirement of 'ID' cards to allow photographers to operate in a public place.
It is a fundamental right of a UK citizen to use a camera in a public place, indeed there is no right to privacy when in a public place.
These moves have developed from paranoia and only promote suspicion towards genuine people following their hobby or profession. |

| | | Re: petition to stop government banning photography in public places does anyone know if the major photography organisations such as the BFP , NUJ etc have taken a public position on this and if so what these positions are - i cant help feeling that if there was a serious issue these bodies would be in the front line of a protest against it

| | | Re: petition to stop government banning photography in public places I'm not sure quite how to read this.
I looked at the website of our original poster, who has a page dedicated to the subject, here: Petition Information
It looks to me like it is a child protection issue, but, I stand to be corrected no doubt.
If this is what it's about then I don't see WABer's have too much to fear. However, I would suggest others read the page to form thier own opinions.

| | | Re: petition to stop government banning photography in public places just to point out that i have beeen taking photographs in publuc as well as privately for years and have never had a problem - it comes down to commonsense really , if you are going to take portraits of kids talk to the parents first , and if they ask you not to , dont
if the police approach you be courteous , explain what you are doing and show them the pics (assuming that you are a digital user of course) - there was an article on this gray area in last months proffesional photographer magazine which is well worth a look

| | | Re: petition to stop government banning photography in public places The 'Campaigns and Petitions' section is only really meant for campaigns affecting wildlife and the environment, like motorways over nature reserves etc, so I'll close this thread and move it to the treehouse.

i.e. 10 Downing Street website - Home... | I wondered about that Andrew, so I logged directly onto the 10 Downing St. site, and found the petitions link. The link show IS the valid one.
It's bad design, normally anything like that make me very suspicious, it's how most of the fake sites work.. |

| | | Re: petition to stop government banning photography in public places You are not allowed to take pics or films in schools now because of the internet and perverts. Even at our local beach a perverted man had been taking photos of the kids thankfully he was caught.
Parents see someone with a camera near their children and they think the worst, it is a sad world |
