Oh No!

Lets hope people don't get alarmed and start killing anything that flys.

Re: Oh No!

Let's hope so. No doubt there will be another bout of hysterical reporting and they will want the government to "do something"

Re: Oh No!

I feel for all those poultry farmers trying to do the right thing and keep free range birds, they'll probably have to bring them indoors an awful thing in terms of welfare, the birds suffer terribly when you remove a freedom they're used to, they get depressed and sick and stop laying, for those farmers that really care about their birds - particularly the smaller scale producers many just cull their birds because they can't stand to see their animals suffer and they think it's kinder. Strict restrictions for too long a period could send many of them under ....

Re: Oh No!

It is H5N1, I can't imagine how it got there if the turkeys are kept indoors. It seems to me where there are alot of birds crammed inside the virus begins, but of course it will have to be blamed on something wild

BBC NEWS | England | Suffolk | Tests show bird flu is H5N1 virus

Re: Oh No!

I'm still amazed that a single farm keeps 160,000 turkeys! I dread to imagine how densely packed they must be.

Re: Oh No!

No reports or panics for weeks, now this.It really does beg the question " Where did it come from, and how did it get here? Were any birds imported to this farm?"
Worrying for us, as not far away.

davew

We only have 5 birds, but have followed all Defra's bio-protection to the letter, at no small cost to ourselves.
