| | | Re: whats happening now? Maybe the database tables are carrying overheads and need optimising?
I run several sites using the same software as WAB - and I find I need to optimise the tables about once a month, especially on the big sites (20k members)

| | | Re: whats happening now? Thanks for the tip guys. We've been trying lots of things to sort the recent speed problems out, but totally forgot about optimising the tables
We've just optimised them, so fingers crossed it has done the trick. |

Still can't work out why it's going wrong |

Or maybe it's simpler.... Lunchtime and after tea
If you're running on a shared server it may not be your site that's causing the slowdown.

| | | Re: whats happening now? No crons running.
We're on a VPS so we have are own allocated services on a shared server, so in theory we shouldn't be affected by other user accounts - that's the theory anyway
We seem to be getting a bad hit for about 15/20 minutes, and are load averages go right up, then suddenly everything is back to normal for 6 hours.
Everytime we get in touch with support, they just show us the load averages after the storm when everything is back to normal |

| | | While you were sleeping Sorry
The Gremlins were at it again last night and we had what was basically another blackout for the last 10 hours.
The company that provides our virtual server has let us down again and despite paying good for money for their supposed 99.9% uptime, this is the second major blackout this month. |

| | | Re: whats happening now? Yesterday, the techies upgraded the system's Kernel (the thing that controls the processors) and it should have taken a few minutes, but ended up taking nearly an hour.
Not sure what the other problem is about, so we'll keep an eye out today and see if anything crops up.

| | | Re: Web site running slow WAB has always been slow for me and I am on a SuperJanet network. I put it down to the style on the forum templates. On the majority of days it just crawls along agonisingly slow, which is why I don't appear here that often.
What version of sql and php is being used by the hosting company - will it have an effect? Are you running any vB modifications or hacks that could generate extra queries?

| | | Re: Web site running slow Apache 1.3.34, Mysql 4.0.25, PHP 4.3.11 and eAccellerator
We've only got a couple of hacks and they're well used in the vB community with no signs of slowing forums down and it's same with the template.
Having said that, there's quite a bit of javascript in the template and latest threads info for the forum and front page, resulting in a page size of about 160kb, which could really do with being optimised.
The slow problems that we've been having over the past week or so look to have been caused by a fault in configuring the eAccellerator, but for the last few days we've been back to normal.
On every PC that I try the site on (all broadband) the pages appear within 2-3 seconds at the most. I'd be very interested to know why you're only getting crawling speeds - what browser are you using? |
