That's awful, it's not as though it's even a developing country where it's a essential food. It digusts me. Shame on the hunters and the consumers.

I too find this utterly repugnant, and it seems outrageous that it is being tacitly encouraged by the authorities.

But I'm not sure why we should be surprised that it is going on. The French and many other European nations have a rather different view on what consititutes legitimate foodstuff from what most of us now think in the UK. Few here find the concept of eating horsemeat comfortable, but it is sold quite widely in France. Snails and frogs too, of course. It is only 10
years since I ate some pate in a respectable French restaurant that - horrifyingly - turned out to have been made from starlings (taught me the folly of eating something the translation of which I didn't understand! ) And fois gras, with its barbaric method of production, is still seen as a great delicacy.

Doesn't EU law count for anything in France - or a good number of other EU member countries for that matter?

I thought we were supposed to live in a civilised and educated european community
