| | | Computer Problems - Anyone Help? I came back earlier today to find one of those nasty blue screens which said something about dumping physical memory.
I turned the computer off and now it does not want to seem to start with the final screen saying
STOP: C0000218 UNKNOWN HARD ERROR
Any ideas?
I am on my laptop now by the way.
Thanks

I searched for " C0000218 UNKNOWN HARD ERROR" in google and had many results, mostly results for people with the same problem and it seems to be registry related. Have you changed any hardware recently? Also what operating system are you using? |

| | | Re: Computer Problems - Anyone Help? A further thing worth trying if you have more than one hard drive installed is to disconnect all bar the boot drive and see if it then boots up ..... this has got me out of trouble more than once with XP. |

Cheers | Everytime XP crashes I think about that wonderful bloke in PC Mart who keeps telling people that XP is a much more stable operating system .... would like to meet him some dark night (just so long as he he not bigger and faster than me!). Bring back Windows 3.11! |

I read around the threads of other people with the same problem and it doesn't seem to be an easy problem to fix so best leave it to the experts. |

| | | Re: Computer Problems - Anyone Help? Whenever you buy a new PC or laptop as you go through the setting up proccess it usualy asks you to make a boot disc just for this problem.
When this used to happeden to me I hoped that I had backed everything up and reloaded Windows.

| | | Re: Computer Problems - Anyone Help? Will it boot from your XP Disc? Try it first. It may be the boot info is corrupt, that can be fixed easily. If it won't boot from the XP disc, and can't id the hard drive, it's down to hardware and a warranty job. |

It shouldn't happen at all, it sounds as though somethings going wrong with the standby or hibernate mode, if either of these were active. |
