All members must carry a camera at all times! Out to fetch a paper on the spur of the moment Tawny owl sitting in a tree at head hight looking straight at me I could have touched it, 25 yds. away the local supermarket busy car park!
This morning went out to fill the bird feeders, Heron took off from my pond 2yds.away then landed on the roof of the bungalow opposite.
what next?

A good rule to follow.

That's always the way though isn't it.........there's always something interesting when you haven't got anything with you to look at it properly or take a picture.

I'm envious of your Tawny Owl. I rarely get to see these birds as they have deserted all their roosting sites that I used to know. I have had one fleeting glimpse of an adult in over two years now and that's all.

Re: New Rule

I can certainly relate to this

These days I carry my camera bag almost everywhere I go - and it's a Lowpro backpack weighing about 20lbs!

Re: New Rule

I've lost count of the times that I'd wished I had a camera with me.
Working in the countryside presents you with many great photo opportunitys, I do occasionally have one of my cameras with me but I get very uneasy about a delicate & expensive instrument being bounced about in a tractor all day.
I suppose the answer would be to buy one of the many models of cheap 5 million pixel cameras available now, some for little over £100, but then I end up asking myself do I really need another camera?, & for the sake of marital harmony I think the answer has to be no!!

Re: New Rule

LOL! If I buy another camera THIS YEAR I'll come home to find my dinner in the cat and my suitcase on the doorstep.

I do have a new lens on order though

Same here. My gear goes everywhere with me. Doesn't weigh as much as yours but does weigh 11lbs.

Re: New Rule

Just weighed the bag - 18lbs!

Add my tripod and joystick head and we're up to 24lbs!

Man I should be fitter than I am lugging that about!

Mine's only a mini not the big beastie.

Mini Trekker AW

I'm tempted to get a bigger one but I'd probably fill that too

My bag is 7 lbs short of yours but I have a heavy tripod with a very heavy Manfrotti 501 Video head which weighs about 4lb on its own, then there is the scope. All together I must be close to your 24lbs.

It makes me smile when I see people saying that they don't want heavy scopes because it would tire them out when out in the field.

I am nearly 61. totally overweight and yet this set up doesn't bother me one bit. I can walk miles with it as Pete and Diane will testify. This lot is with me wherever I go, even in 100+ degree heat abroad.

Re: New Rule

The really annoying thing is I usually carry a Minolta X31(x20) in a belt pouch,a cheap 3mega pixel 3X zoom, the size of 20 cigarettes .
But you have to remember to take it with you!
