| | | Re: Ray Mears Alert Was good wasn't it? Think Gordon was slightly surplus to requirements, not sure he really liked that witchety grub! Felt sorry for the lizard but at least the aborigines lived sustainably and ate to survive. Back to blighty next episode.

| | | Re: Ray Mears Alert I thought it was really interesting. Couldn't understand in advance why the first programme was going to be in Australia, but now I see. I was particularly taken by the use of a snail shell as a grater. Amazing.
As well as his huge knowledge, I wish I had Ray Mears' ability to relate so easily and naturally to almost anyone he meets. It's partly that he shows everyone the same courteous respect, I think, but he also seems to be a very warm and charismatic individual. Anyone ever met him in the flesh? |

| | | Re: Ray Mears Alert I was sooooo hoping that guy with him was only going to be on the first episode...what a plank!....and annoyingly like they do at the end of ready steady cook...he had his taste opinion already scripted in his head so the nanosecond the food stuff hit his mouth out came the planned "Oh yes thats really good"...dont be daft man? your taste buds havent even found it yet? chew it? swish it around? have another bite then tell us truthfully...we could all see you nearly vomited eating that grub ! and you used your stock answer....
sadly at the end of the show the taster of what to come all included this guy...Ok he knows his stuff but had zero personality and make uncomfortable tv....but ray was great as ever.
I want to taste Monitor/iguana now !!...

Is it true Ray's wife died recently?

I was looking forward to the programme but found it slightly dull. Possibly because I didn't realise the whole first episode was based in Australia, so I kept waiting for them to start talking about hunter gathering in the UK. Also, I've seen other programmes about Aboriginal food and hunter gathering so didn't find it that interesting.
Hmm, Ray's side-kick from UCL wasn't the most charismatic of individuals. Perhaps he'll come into his own in later episodes.
