| | | Anyone have a dictionary? I recently bought a packet of "Original Long Burning Firelighters" labelled "Improved Formula" and "Improved Cube Shape". Can anyone tell me what 'original' means?

henrya | Well in my complete and unabridged Collins it says:
ADJECTIVE 1 of or relating an origin or beginning 2 fresh and unusual;novel 3 able to think or carry out new ideas or concepts 4 being that from which a copy, translation, etc,is made 5 the first and genuine form of something, from which others are derived...............shall I continue?

jaki | It's very ambiguous - does it mean 'long' in one dimension, 'long' lasting or following a 'long' line of other 'originals'? This is what advertising people do - use words as ambiguously as possible to appeal to everyone! they're not called 'creatives' for nothing - they create new meanings to words that we always thought we understood! |
