| | | My Spanish trip. I know this is a UK site but I have just posted my trip report from my few days in Spain onto my web site. Contained in that report are quite a few photos. Most of those same photos I will upload to WAB the week after next as I will be going to Norfolk for a few days at 06:30 today.
If you want to take a look here is the link. Span Dec 2006
I will be back by the weekend, hopefully to post up my Norfolk trip report.
Happy new year to you all.

Beryl | Thanks Beryl.
To be honest I don't mind if anyone does nick the photos. They are not big images so there isn't a lot they can do with them but I'm of the opinion that if they want them they can have them.
Mind you if I have a super dooper one then I would save it also at the largest image and keep that away from the site.

John | Oh . That's fine then . I was thinking more of peeps thet nick photos for camepaigns but as you say they 're not big and if the res is 72 they wouldn't print . I think it's a great web site though. well done. BTW. I have a link to it on my web site links page I was sure you wouldn't mind

Those Hoopoe's are a fantastic looking bird, it always seems to me that foriegn climbs have more attractive/elaborate species. But im not sure if thats simply because im used to local stuff. |

John | I fully agree with your policy John.
I think people can be too precious over their images, almost to the detriment of showing them off properly. Images are there to be shared. I can fully understand a PRO safeguarding their images, as it is their livelihood, but the average Joe going for watermarks and the like, I just dont get it. A bloke contacted me a couple of weeks ago and said he'd like to use one of my images on a headstock of a guitar he was having made. 'Of course' was my reply. How cool would that be?
My guess is that he would not have asked the same of someone whose photos are destroyed by watermarks and are copyrighted.
My site offers my images up for whoever wants them for whatever reason. I am not arrogant enough to think they are stunning images, but if someone wants one they can take it or apply for a larger resolution one, and use it for whatever the deem fit.
I have said it would be nice to get a credit, but not mandatory, and again would be nice to see the publication, but it really is not that important to me. |

| | | Re: My Spanish trip. Yes, I'll go along with you there. I just get a bit too precious when I have spent a long time making an animation( which I honestly don't think any one else would want any way ) for some one else to take I supose.
But your right really.

| | | Re: My Spanish trip. I think animation is different, and should rightly be protected. But I have seen some sites ruined by watermarks - right across the image. It just stops me looking if the image is obscured. I saw one from Northants last year where the pictures were nothing special and were totally obscured and I just thought why bother, its not like I couldnt go and take the same photo if jumped in the car.
I've noticed Kev Lewis doesnt bother, or Digi. Even the likes of Laurie Campbell.
I want people to look at my images, in their entirity. I cant imagine any of them are going to make someone else rich, and if someone uses one for the front cover of a book, or on their website, that, for me, is fantastic. |

| | | Re: My Spanish trip. Yes. I agree on thinking about it. I had about 18 printed in our local daily paper and I didn't water mark them (don't know how to ) but I just sent them as they were (most are on the WAB) and they were all credited to me any way. so it goes to show really . But I haven't actually bothered with watermarks , as you say it ruins the pic and one turns away. As for my animations, well, (I like them) but as I am hopeless at drawing they have got to look better animated. Any way back to Johns trip and web site. I think his trip sounded really good and his web site is taking off really well.

| | | Re: My Spanish trip. John- great trip, I went to some of those places a couple of years back in spring- El Rocio is quite surreal- like out of wild west!
Coincidentally in my local park this afternoon we saw a pair of Monk Parakeets feeding on seeds of a Field Maple- first time I've seen them locally, though we have plenty of Ring-necks + we've also had a pair of Senegal Parrots.
There was a pair of Monks at Barnes for a few years + they built huge twig nest in both a poplar + a cedar, but no young appeared. I know of 2 colonies in London- one on Isle of Dogs + other at Boreham Wood, so they may be beginning to take off here too!
Welcome home. |

| | | Re: My Spanish trip. I'm another no copyright marking believer. I've been asked if my shots can be used, I always say yes, no problem.
When I got those daytime bat images, I was asked if I could supply better quality ones for a bat society to use. I was chuffed to bits! I sent them all in high quality on CD, free of charge. All I asked was that no charge was made to view them, and that they weren't to be sold on.
I've also supplied high quality shots to individuals that wanted them, the more the merrier! The fact someone else found them interesting enough to want to use them was good enough for me. |
