jaki... in learning mode | You are right, it is lens. Though so many people seem to be using the other spelling these days that maybe it will become an accepted alternative soon. |

| | | Re: Thorns and prickles My problem is initials, which is very popular these days: Off to the SBTR to get a TES. Being slightly dislexic, that just makes my head buzz!
My example: Off to the shop by the river to get a Times Educational Supplement, but I'm sure the rest of you could work that out without me telling you!

| | | Re: Thorns and prickles I have got to hating the use of initials. . . at work there is always some new initiative every week thought up by some wally and only referred to in capitals . . . have I arrived at the grumpy old lady stage of life?! Yes and with good reason I think! I'm so fed up withthis practice now that as soon as anyone starts it I just say 'I'm sorry I don't have a clue what you're talking about - could you try speaking English please'. Bet it makes me popular? Am I bovvered - does this face look bovvered to you ............!!

We've been into spelling problems in great detail from time to time but, has anyone looked at this from the direction of the sounds of letters?
In English 's' has two sounds, soft 'z' and hard 'ss'. Lens rhymes with fens (soft s); put an 'e' on the end and it rhymes with sense (hard s).
Not all spelling problems can be resolved so easily, of course ...... |

Means to strip blubber or skin off an animal - apologies to the squeamish! |
