I'm terrible at being creative enough to think of what to buy for less than a fiver to fit in a stocking, but then the other day I saw this

For a few pounds more you could also get a bird feeder for someone to take to work and stick on the outside of office window outside.

Yep, torches have got to be the number one stocking filler - you can never have enough torches

OOOOh Head torch, now they are handy when your'e out wandering the woods in the dark, for example bat detecting!!!

I have been using Kevlar glove inners,heat resist,cut and abrasion resist
from about £5 or more as stand-alone gloves very useful

robins, wrens and the like may love wigglywigglers, but i dont think my girlfriend will appreciate me leaving them in her stocking

i can see her face now it will go from very quickly to !!!

secateurs or scissors for the photographer, a little light pruning could make a good picture brilliant, green garden wire to hold twigs back or pull them into frame
Obviously within the boundarys of what is legal and sensible

A good one is just a tad expensive for a stocking filler - unless you've just won the lottery

How about a promisory note for a trip on the Moorsbus (North Yorkshire Moors) - www.moors.uk.net/discover - Park the car and let the bus take the strain. More than one route to choose from and a whole day of relaxation, with tea rooms, restaurants etc. en route.

P.S. No doubt there are other such facilities around the country, if your recipient is visiting another area.

For the D.SLR owners,in fact any photographers how about the
ROCKET AIR blower to remove dust (heaven forbid)from your sensor
unlike aerosols it does not spit or leave a residue

Then, of course, you have the possibility of a mini camera (approx. £15 from Maplins), to view nesting birds in your nest box. We currently have a rooster in our box and even seeing this bird bedding down for the night gives a bit of pleasure.
