A sorry tale...

Picture the scene…

Mother (on phone): ‘what would you like for Christmas, number one son?’

#1 son: ‘a digital camera please mum. Argos are selling the Fuji S5600 for £112.49’

Mum: ‘As you’ve been good*, consider it done.’

*this may not be entirely accurate.

#1 son: ‘yay!’

Later;

Mum: ‘Argos only have one left, conveniently it is in Yeovil. Go and get it and I will send the money.'

#1 son: ‘yay!’

Mum: ‘Remember, it is a Christmas present. Bring it back to Kent so I can wrap it up and put it under the tree.’

#1 son (thinks): ‘Yeah, right. That’s gonna happen…’

So number one son dutifully skives off work and goes to Yeovil. Picks up camera.

#1 son: ‘Mother dear said not to open it until Christmas day, but one little look won’t hurt…’

So number one son opens box in car park and promptly drops delicate new camera onto hard, unforgiving concrete.

#1 son: ‘Oh bother. How inconvenient. I really am jolly well vexed now. Dash it.'*

*possibly not a direct quote.

Mum, later: ‘Pillock.’

Moral of the story: ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR MUM KIDS! SHE REALLY DOES KNOW BEST!

cheers,

Ian

Re: A sorry tale...

Oh Ian how horrid...made a very interesting tale to read this morning though. Not sure my rebellious streak really allows me to listen to my Mother, but I usually stick with books for xmas and they handle a drop a little better than your camera. Is it ruined then?

Re: A sorry tale...

Thankfully it seems to be fine, although it's difficult to tell as I don't know how to work it!

I went straight out and bought a padded case and a decent strap for it though... I may be thick but I'm not stupid!

cheers,

Ian

Re: A sorry tale...

Ooops! Let that be a lesson to you.

Actually, I've been pleasantly surprised at just how much mistreatment my little Nikon 4300 has absorbed over the last few years without failure.

It's starting to look a bit tatty now though, with duct tape holding the battery compartment lid shut, and paint worn off the case.

Got my eye on a nice Nikon DSLR to replace it with next...

Now what is it that makes us laugh so much at other people's misfortunes? Must be the way you tell it

This made me laugh not because of the camera but because I was reading the words you didnt write
I have daughters but I know what they would have said as girls are as bad as boys in that respect

Re: A sorry tale...

Oh no!! Poor you! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's ok!!
I did once swiftly move my panasonic out of the way of a poorly aimed waterpistol shot and cracked it against a concrete bird bath instead and well it seems to be fine.....!

Snap - my old Fuji S304 is well battered and scratched, used to have tape over the battery compartment (1st bit that broke) but I've found the screw in tripod clamp holds it shut nicely. It still takes great shots though.

Re: A sorry tale...

That's really put it into perspective - dropping a camera is stupid but the last bottle of Bushmills? That's a tragedy! I hope you're okay now - it's good that you can talk about it...

cheers,

Ian

How long did it take you to get the broken glass out of your tongue?

Yellowhammer; My Counsellor tells me I must talk about it
Smartie;I still find shards even now
The therapy is to get back to buying in a safe environment and let the staff carry it to the car
