| | | Monty Don- Growing out of trouble Wow......superb
Ok so i know a lot of you are anti TV but i have to say hats off to one of my heros Monty Don for his new tv series "growing out of trouble"...a scheme aimed at getting criminal/drug addicts/young repeat offenders into the countryside for a new start and a second chance at the "Good life" . Im shocked but i guess un suprised at the local hostility he met and i was also upset at the sad outcome of one of the offenders at the end of the program . I will definately follow this series as i think it fantastic although i am in no way condoning any type of crime etc....but hey......some people can change right?
Good on you monty and good luck .
Dan
p.s. next episode i believe is tusday at 9:00pm bbc2 plus please double check this? |

| | | Re: Monty Don- Growing out of trouble supermassive black hole? ?????
lol
hmmm.,...yes i really enjoyed the program but then i tend to enjoy things everyone else on here hates ha ha
but i love monty anyway and was so suprised to hear of his history/life? they showed pics of him in full boy george make up, bouffant hair and shoulder pads mid eighties when he was a famous jewellery designer and maker and made stuff for diana? i never knew that ( mum did though?)
He also revealed his past doing drugs and shop lifting and then his bankruptcy how he lost everything , a serious mental breakdown and then a move thankfully to the country, kids, and started on the whole gardening thing ( and arent we glad eh?)
Seriously i reckon you should all watch on tuesday at 9 and decide wether its all good or all bad?

| | | Re: Monty Don- Growing out of trouble It was a really good and pretty emotional program. Look forward to seeing what happens. I could understand some of the locals worries but they were 99% unfounded and biggoted. I just thought what a bunch of boring old fa**s. That other couple who offered their land seemed like great people. Never really liked MD up till know but he came across as a top bloke. |

| | | Re: Monty Don- Growing out of trouble Good for Monty, the series was an emotional ride for him,but he said that projects like his should be set-up around the country, centered outside major towns & cities. He was speaking on Radio 4 yesterday morning. He has set-up a charity, The Monty Project, to carry-on the work. Sad about the young lad
Have already marked tuesday's prog as I'm taping it for a friend who's out of the country working, she loves Monty.

I just remember years ago watching something on "This Morning" - he used to do the gardening features on the show - and they were having a discussion about his past life, i.e the jewellery business, his nervous breakdown and his anorexia and then how he reinvented himself and fought back.
It stuck in my mind because it was the first time I had heard of a man having anorexia.
It is fantastic to see that he has gone from strength to strength and now has his own tv programmes.

| | | Re: Monty Don- Growing out of trouble I agree, Honeybee. I think that particularly now when there is growing pressure on men to look good the rate of male anorexia is rising.
