| | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions I have worked with colleagues who were dyslexic and admired the efforts they made to succeed at something which comes naturally to most of us.
Apart from what my family tell me, I have no great crosses to bear. Centuries ago, I was taught to touchtype in the Army. Every Wednesday morning, one of the Regimental Police would run through the barracks operating a wooden football rattle. This was the signal for a gas attack, and we all had to don our gas masks, and carry on typing - a precursor of Monty Python.
To a large extent, it is a skill that stayed with me (like riding a bike, I guess). However, with my advaancing years, I find that I sometimes type "s" in front of a word, or transpose letters. Spellcheck is a Godsend, checking always helps, but something usually escapes.
Don't forget what else the Greeks had to say: "Moderation in all things" - I have just realised what I have said - this is NOT a dig at our moderators!
(I have just removed an "s" from the front of a word, would you believe, and found another error) (and another on previewing this post!)
No doubt you will let me know of any more errors.

| | | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions I am hopeless at typing. I even get frustrated trying to find a letter on the keyboard because my brain some times refuses to rcognise it's shape Sounds ubunbleivable for an intelegent person but I some time send textmessages which mty son just can't understand.
Don't worry I'm in stitches just telling you as tsome of the words I write just make me curl up with laughter. maybe that is why I write humorous verse
I can't even see where the p

I one told my son where a meetinting was to be helled. He saidwas the number of the street 666 and I hadn't a clue why he'd said it |

| Sorry but the word weak in brackets came across as a put down to me and was uncalled for.
And spelling is not what this site is about - I thought we were ALL on here cos we ALL liked what's outside the front door.
however we spell it, whatever accent we use and whatever camera we use etc |

| | | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions My spelling has always been good writing on paper but with the keyboard its hopeless.I think both Beryl and I often have the same problem with hitting 2 letters at the same time.I mostly notice it but with dyslexia i imagine it isnt so easy to spot T and Y, A and S, S and D seem to be the worse ones for me.Also people with arthritus in there fingers must have the same problem.I am seriously thinking of looking for a keyboard with larger keys to help the problem |

Nope can't find it. Never mind what does a few spelling mistake matter so long as the I is not put where an O should go |

Like your "Deafinately", I wouldn't change that!

That's fine if you use IE but I use Firefox and so do a lot of other members and it doesn't appear for me. Is there a way that a spellchecker could be incorporated for Firefox?

eg Does Every Female In Norway Ignore The Elephants Lost Yesterday
Thing is, then you have to remember the mnemonic!

John | I am not sure John. It does not work for me either - AOL.
I use Firefox too, but do have IE so I use IE exclusively for WAB and have set WEB as my default page for IE |

| | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions Oh no - mnemonics I can never work out - it requires a different sort of brain! The only mnemonic I have ever remembered is the one for colours of the rainbow (and I know some people interpret that differently). Otherwise, *if* I remember the mnemonic (a big problem as you say) I can't work out what it stands for .... I did make a mnemonic (just for fun!?!) for Abax parallelepipedus but gave up on Subcoccinella vigintiquattuorpunctata ....
For me it's far easier to memorise the spelling. I think one of the problems that we're talking about relates to different "types" of memory - I have a good visual memory and my response to spell-checking is to visualise the word in print: I may not always know the spelling of a word but I know when it doesn't look right - exagerate, exaggerate, exaggerrate, eksajerait ..... ? I know which is correct because it *looks* right!
I know different peoples' memories depend on different stimuli and relationships Quote:
