I hope that isn't too much to hope for as I really don't like conflict and would rather leave than get involved in something that has nothing to do with me.

Well, firstly it is a relief to find that I am not the only one who sometimes gets uptight but I must say that I have found people involved in this forum to be generally tolerant and broadminded. And that fact alone just shows how easy it is to give offence by a careless remark - which can be difficult to always avoid when grabbing a moment of one's time to view. It is equally easy to take offence when none was intended.
Now, the thing that really bugs me on this forum is the abysmally bad spelling from all you young things who did not have the advantage of a real education. Are you all suitably offended? (Especially the teachers) So have a go at me for that if you like! |

I for one (amongst other I'm sure) am quite dyslexic and even have a tough time knowing left from right and am extramly left orientated.

I admit to being a terrible speller, Airehead, (and I'm not one of the young ones) but wouldn't be offended by someone commenting! I just miss my spellcheck on here! |

| | | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions I personally think that the reading through what you have written is the most important part. You then have the opportunity to correct any transposed or missed letters, see if the spelling looks right and that you have used the correct form when two or more words sound the same but have different spellings. Then press send.

| | | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions For some reason I have always been able to spell - apart from when I'm tired and words get spelt totally backwards or when my nails are long and I can't be bothered to go back and retype.
In forums, meaning can be made a lot clearer in slang and ungrammaticus and smileys.
In real life, I'm sure we would check and recheck, but life's too short for forum spell checks. |

For intance this little piece took over 5 mins to write and correct | I'm mildly dyslexic but have got much better as time has gone by. I am fortunate in being able to read okay but I have trouble with writing. The formation of some of the letters of the alphabet just don't make logical sense to me - d,b,p are the ones which give me the most trouble. That being said I think I have cracked it now, but sometimes I have to stop and think which way round the letter should be before I write it down.
I am lucky to be a whizz on the keyboard though - it must use a different part of the brain - and any mistakes I make as I type are purely down to laziness on my part as I type as I think or speak and cannot be bothered to recheck it.
I will finish my post with the rallying call of the Dyslexic Society:-

Most language/literature forums have a rule that if you use bad spelling you should expect to be pulled up on it, many non-language forums have rules that it shouldnt.
Thats the way it should be I reckon. |

| | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions Are you left-handed, perchance? The sort of thing that you're referring to has a lot to do with 'handedness'. Dyslexia or not, left-handed children tend to write b as d and vice versa ....
Using a keyboard is different because you're actually using spatial knowledge rather than memory .... or something like that ...

| | | Re: Perceptions, Opinions & Reactions It's usually the other way around - musicians tend to be good at maths although useless at other sciences ....
And vice versa, many great mathematicians and physicists (just a variety of maths) have been major classical musicologists although I don't recall many being virtuoso players. Einstein was quite nifty on the fiddle but I suppose he had other things to think about .... Quote:
