I think it's a bit vulgar, the majority are not raising money. Light pollution is an issue, some people in citites have never seen the stars. |

| | | Re: Christmas Decorations I'll stuff the baked apples with sultanas, Jaki! They like those.
I'm thinking of decorating as many trees in my garden as I can with treats for the birds, then I can see what goes down well, and continue it. If I tie them on with red ribbons, it should look quite festive! I may even thread some peanuts in their shells together like garlands and drape them about!
I hung a few feeders inside thickly branched shrubs the other day, as a) The leaves had fallen so I could see what I was doing, and b) as it was so windy I thought the birds might appreciate some sheltered feeders.
The results have been amazing! The birds are having a wonderful time, protected from the strong winds, so I'm pleased I did it. |

Wow.. now that is dedication. I can imagine they would have a feast. I will put my feeders out soon. I forgot to get the fat balls today. I think your creatures are very lucky to have you BW. I can see a story from all this.

| | | Re: Christmas Decorations I'm getting so much back, Jaki, for all the work. Since we moved here, we have increased the visiting bird population at least tenfold, and they're still increasing. Out of every window, at all times, we can see a rainbow of birds.
I now make bird cakes with lard and seeds, because the fat balls and blocks were costing so much, mainly because the starling gangs arrived. I love starlings, so I don't resent them, but they eat a lot!
I've also decided, having just watched Nature's Calendar, (What a great programme, and did you see Gigrin Farm?), that I need to buy a big bunch of mistletoe, and hang it in the garden so that the birds can eat the berries, and hopefully they may return the favour by sewing me some mistletoe seeds up in the orchard, which we still can't reach until the undergrowth is cleared a bit. It would be great to have my own mistletoe growing! How festive would that be! (I've already got the holly and the ivy.) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
