A Ruff Question

My daughter is learning about the tudors at school, they have been talking about the ruffs they wore around their necks, my daughter has taken a bird book in to show the class about the ruff bird.
The question I have is did the tudors name their ruffs after the bird or was the bird named after the tudors ruff?

Seems the word ‘Ruff’ as in collar, comes from the word Ruffle, so the bird may have been named after the collar rather than the collar after the bird. Just depends how long the birds name Ruff has been in use.
