Pray for no large youths in cheap masks,
demanding money with menaces, or 'trick-or-treats,
but instead for sweet children thrilled by fancy dress,
accompanied by Mum, and delighted with sweets.

The carol-singers will be around soon-"Good king Wenslus...giggle giggle...with buckets for the money. I'm turning into a really sour old woman! Thank heavens for innocent delights like bird and Badger watching!

Re: Happy Halloween

Happy hallow'een to you all!

Time to say goodbye to the old year and remember those who have passed on.

And I hate trick or treaters! There is no way I would let my kids go out and beg with menaces. I have just had a rant about this on another forum so won't go into one here. Grrrrrrr. lol.

My kids will be going to a hallow'een party instead where they can dress up and bob for apples and have fun without getting into mischief.

Re: Happy Halloween

Well we're ignoring the trick or treaters because I don't fancy being egged. We've done a scary pumpkin.
My daughter's not old enough to appreciate it properly.

Has nobody got any scary stories, ghostly encounters they want to share?!

Re: Happy Halloween

As usual the kids from the rest of Birmingham are shipped into Little Aston where the parents presume that the offerings will be better than their locality. How wrong is that?

Re: Happy Halloween

Bleedin kids hanging around begging all night i can't stand this night, and 2 weeks ago kids were doing the penny for a guy bit with a tracksuit stuffed with newspaper!! I wouldn't mind so much if they'd actually made any effort, all the trick or treaters round here just wear a mask and expect some money!!

I used to live with a social worker in Cardiff and all the kids under her care came knocking at the door, was a bit embarrasing. Don't really get brats asking for money for the guy round here thank god.

Maybe the 'Strictly no riff-raff' signs need to be bigger

Things have been surprisingly quiet around my area, so far. I've got no intention of opening the door to anyone though.

Muggins here completely forgot what day it was, so I opened the door to find two youngsters - with bags all ready opened expecting to get something. I'm gonna turn the lights out and pretend i'm not in.

Re: Happy Halloween

I did speak too soon. Just had a group of lads (sounded like teenagers) banging on my door and shouting through the letterbox. Just hope they've not done anything to my car. It's so out of order though. It must be so intimidating to anyone who is old or infirm.

seems they've gone away, for now.

unfortunately they have all the power and they know it. They could easily make my life a misery and there's nothing I can do about it. They try and bait you hoping for a confrontation and then launch a vendetta against your property. We've had a bit of previous in this regard if you're wondering why I sound so defeatist!

I sound like Victor Meldrew and I'm only 35

Oh dear, sorry to hear this.I'd be out there knocking some heads together but I am a bit bad tempered.
Cast some spells on them and have your house protected, then they'll never know.

Re: Happy Halloween

Haven't had any of the local brats round this year, I think they remember meeting our dog last October
My three aren't interested in the Haloween thing at all, they are all happily sitting watching Liverpool give Bordeaux a lesson in how to play football!

Re: Happy Halloween

My girls had a cracking time tonight making pumpkin lanterns and then we all went to the party. It was great fun and wore them all out so much the two youngest have crashed out in bed already.

As for trick or treaters, I blame the parents too.

Well, when I lived in Cheltenham it was apparent that there are no footy fans down there as there are no teams nearby, and most preferred rugby. Therefore can I assume that your delight in an English team getting a 'whooping' means you are more rugger than football?

I see!! Not a rugger fan at all (most people here are you're right!) my other half likes footy so it's on in background, he wants Chelsea to win so I've got to support Barcelona! ...I'm a girl and really couldn't give a ....

Re: Happy Halloween

I hate this night. It's nowt more than a money spinning, intimidating, irritating, pain in the backside. We've suffered in the past and had to clean off eggs and flour from our houses and cars in the morning. It doesn't stop for a few days some years. The kids seem to get a taste for their activities and do it evening after evening. The police don't come out so we feel really worried.
