It is weird.. it is also pretty darn horrible to endure the result of even the tiniest of contacts. Cant even smell it now without feeling nausea. Cant eat oranges anymore either.

Re: Fish and Chips

Well it's very rare that we have a chip shop lunch so it is a real treat when we do. Will just have to be careful where we go. And if we can't find a chippy that cooks in vegetable oil then I'll quite happily settle for a yummy vegetarian pizza instead and will have to have the chippy lunch back home..

Re: Fish and Chips

Best fish and chips I can remember was at Perranporth in Cornwall. The only thing was, you had to be careful of the seagulls dive-bombing you while you ate them.
Steve is right about fish and chips and the seaside. A perfect combination.

Re: Fish and Chips

I know there is a tenuous link to wildlife here somewhere (Fish) but what has fish and chips to do with wildlife. i thought i was in a wildlife site.
anyway! not all chippies in the north east use beef dripping but heres a well known fact. Frying fish in batter is the best way to eat it, that is of course as long as you remove the batter before eating. the batter acts as a shield to preserve the taste of the fish. So you can fry fish in whatever you like "Just dont eat the batter" thats the bad part or so i've been told by an ex-fisherman from "Uddesrfiled tha knows!"

Re: Fish and Chips

In The Treehouse forum, other subjects may be discussed so long as they are not offensive and all the rest. It promotes community spirit on the site and can be light-hearted and a good way of making new friends. All the other forums are for wildlife etc. We like our food on WAB and it's certainly something we can all relate to and discuss. So thats why fish and chips is the subject on this occasion.
Right-I'm off down the chippy-I like chips and salad! Yum.

Re: Fish and Chips

I had fish and chips yesterday by the seaside.... I try to limit myself to cod only once or twice a year in order to not feel too guilty for depleting stocks still further.....
Best I've ever had was in Wells - next-to the sea North Norfolk.
Had chips fried in animal fat in Dundee, they were gorgeous at first but I felt sick after about 12, too rich for me.

hmm hadn't thought about the transfat thing, I do try to avoid them, have even got back to butter to aviod them (though that's no real hardship!!) think I'd feel silly asking about it in a chippy though!! Not exactly where you go to eat healthily!

Finally I remember when I was working in Ullapool that it was near impossible to eat local fish in the restuarants because they exported most of it to France....
