OK.. the squealing and squeaking...

.... isnt Hedgehogs.. unless the field at the side of my house is full of them!. Took the torch out just now to see if I could find out what was making these squeals and squeaks. I didnt see anything but from the sounds in the field and the fact that the noise was coming from all directions out there I decided there must be birds resting in the field. Now I want to know what birds.. but I cant see em!... The noise out there is more like a mewling peep. Any ideas wonderwabbers?

Hi Jaki,

The first thing that comes to mind is Lapwings, but many waders have unusual calls and can often be heard calling at night as they fly overhead. It's hard to narrow it down though really.

hi Alan.. the first thing I thought of was Lapwing.. they are on the ground not in flight.. I guess it will be another of the things i never get an answer to

Lapwings can make many different sounds, in the air and on the ground, as many birds do. You may be able to find examples online if you google for bird sounds.
