Lots of people say that, but I've never understood why it's supposed to be more memorable than spring backward, fall forward, especially considering the number of branches that spring back at you when you're out with a group, or the way you fall forward when you trip over a hidden bramble. Am I missing something?
henrya | In Spring, life bursts forth & in Autumn, life retreats back into the earth. The yanks gave us Fall, which is apropriate.

| | | Re: The clocks go back... Exactly. - The studies at the time weren't not statistically rigorous, just that some newspapers made a big racket everytime there was an incident.
I would have thought that suddenly changing the conditions is more likely to lead to accidents than allow people to gradually acclimatise to the dark.
Yes, indeed, the change of times was simply to allow employers (farmers) to get more daylight hours of work out of their workers (slaves, peasants) ...
I agree, it's just become accepted and some people in UK will simply not accept any change - however trivial it is. Quote: |

. | I know that is why the clocks change but that argument always makes me laugh - you can alter the time but you can't make more hours of daylight in a day! |

| | | Re: The clocks go back... It's what was said at the time of the Act of Parliament.
Basically, the farmers wanted people to work as many hours as was legal - but they couldn't go milking the cows &c until it was light so they changed the working hours to get people available at first light .... Quote: |

| | | Re: The clocks go back... There isn't a standard time for Europe - CET applies to most countries but Greece, for instance, goes in the opposite direction. Same thing, of course, applies across North America and Russia. That's a reasonable variation - what irks me is this changing of the clocks twice a year for no good reason, just habit! Quote: |

| | | Re: The clocks go back... I had good news and bad news regarding clock changing - the good news was that the club did indeed extend its licence so we got another hours drinking time. i sensibly put my clock back before i went out but the bad news was that i had forgotten that my clock was one of those that adjusts itself automatically - this meant that it was now two hours back
In my tender condition this morning I didnt twig to this until I strolled in to the office this am thinking I had loads of time and logged the computer on, at which point i realised I was running an hour late for the working party

| | | Re: The clocks go back... It's at times like this I wonder why I have 12 clocks in the house and why I can neither remember how to set the one on the answering machine nor where I put the instructions. And, after all the hoo-ha, we forgot to put the bedroom clock back and got woken at 6.30. |

Haha, there's always one...nice one.
I usually expect the clocks to adjust themselves as most do (computers/mobile phones) and then when they don't I'm an hour out |

| | | Re: The clocks go back... I am utterley exhausted and my clock says 8pm my body feels like it is even way later than 9. I was hoping the kids would seem tired by now but no such luck. To make matters worse I have different time zones in my house as for some reason my radio controlled clock has not adjusted so I am just really losing track |
