| | | Re: fireworks I'm not against fireworks, but would like them to be made a lot quieter than they are. If they weren't so noisy, the unruly element who let them off at all hours of the day and night, would not find them so interesting anyway, so perhaps solving 2 problems in one.
We have cats, who are fairly bombproof and are lucky to live over half a mile from the nearest village, where the local pub always has a good firework display on the night. It doesn't seem to bother our animals that much, but our neighbours once had a bonfire party (without warning us) and we were looking after a friend's horse at the time aswell. I spent over half an hour in the rain, trying to comfort her, our own pony and 2 goats, who were absolutely pertrified.
They always give warnings about keeping pets indoors, but if you have livestock, thats not so easy, plus wildlife is equally affected. |

Why should it be o.k to bombard the country and everything in it on the 5th Nov. but not o.k any other night by will nilly people?Because animals get frightened (not often to death though) by other things does making huge explosions for fun o.k?.Whether its intentional or not theres no doubt if your letting off fireworks you will be annoying someone, but does that mean you should stop?.That must surely be down to the individual?. The great thing about forums is the opportunity to speak from your heart and debate issues close to it.The 5th of Nov.is now many people feel way way out of control.Where will it end?, semtex under your shed!!!! My garden is a firework free sanctuary for any animal any night a small token of my love for them because thats the way i like it.Anyway i would rather spend my money on something other than blowing it up!! AND ITS RAINING TODAY YIPPEE RAIN DANCING WORKS!!! |

Personally I have always thought fireworks were over rated anyway, give me a big bonfire anyday (checked for hedgepigs first of course).
Cherrybee, I wish Tammie a speedy recovery and am glad to hear she is improving. |

One time in the new year we were outside and some idiot hadnt set his fireworks up properly and when they went off, instead of going straight up in the air it went across the ground. It only just missed us but landed right under our car . It is gettingout of had, especially on large estates, where stupid kids decide its fun to put a firework through someone's letter box .
Also wouldnt it upset the bats?
Sorry, rant over

Maybe that is taking it a tad too far. I think I will stick to baked potatoes in tin foil in my bonfires. |

| | | Re: fireworks My mind goes back to one moonlit evening in October of last year when I was along Clay Lane besides Pump House Flash (Sandbach) when a car screeched to a halt and a little ******* got out and dashed over the road towards the field gate and threw a banger which of course frightened the living daylights out of some nearby waterfowl. I would have had no hesitation in putting that imbicile on top of a bonfire and then setting light to it. |

There were loads of people buying them. They were also walking out with HUGE rockets. Madness.

| | | Re: fireworks Thats another thing thats got out of hand - the amount of places allowed to legally sell fireworks.
When I was young, you had to go to specific shops and specialist retailers to get them. Now its any supermarket, garden centre and corner shop. We live in a small rural village, and the village shop has them. Surely it doesn't take a genius to realise that the local youths who have no way to get into town, must be buying them there. Probably getting an older boy to go in and then pass them around the younger ones (like they do with alcohol and ciggies).
If you could only buy them at specific shops, this would help remove the supply for inappropriate use. |

So it was either six 1d bangers or three 2d bangers.
The only firework that was banned was the Jumping Jack.

Round here you often see the parents behaving just as bady as their kids as regarding fireworks - and many other things come to think of it! |

| | | Re: fireworks Well a long time ago (when I was small lol), fire works were quieter and more contained to the big events. I think it should be restricted to organised events all held on the same night then it'd be done with. I reckon the majority of the population would agree.
Here in Manchester well I am constantly awoken by fireworks at strange times of the night. I live with huge playing fields then the river a few minutes away and it seems popular with youths who wish to set their fireworks off! |

Under current legislation premises need a licence to sell fireworks for the 'normal' firework days and an additional licence if they want to sell outside those dates. In my opinion a licence given for the sale of fireworks from a trailer should be challenged as I do not believe that the trailer would be classed as a 'Premises' and could therefore be illegal.
