Re: W.A.B Titchwell day out

Sounds good to me too guys.

I think it would be a good idea to have a get together to discuss a possible WAB outings schedule for next year. With a bit of brainstorming and a good supply of ale we should able to come up with some ideas to cover most areas of the UK.

What do you think?

There's plenty of time. There is no need to firm up until about march / april time, or perhaps even later. Just let me know when you need to know and we will firm it up then.

Ooph that sounds like a masterplan. Somewhere conveniently situated for as many people as possible. Somewhere central. Birmingham maybe. Or perhaps Coventry or Leicester.

Coventry sounds gopod to me. There is a decent Toby carvery down the road from me.

Just kidding. I am open to suggestions and would love to join up with you guys to decide a fixture for the year.

I was thinking. if we left the SW meet to perhaps the 14th or 21st of July then we could organise a Bempton Cliffs meet for mid June.

There is a current meet that may go on for the last weekend in April and that is at Minsmere. There are a few of us already going to that so that could be added to the list. Hopefully I will be in Lesbos from May 3rd so if May is on the agenda then it would have to be the 26th for me and if that was possible then how about Norfolk.

John

Re: W.A.B Titchwell day out

I have to say, purely on a selfish basis, my priority next year is to go and get some shots of the puffins. I don't care where. Apparently in Orkney they come to your feet. Now that I would like

They do that on the Farne islands as well but you can get fairly close at Bempton and that is why i suggested it.

Re: W.A.B Titchwell day out

Puffins were at Bempton last June, but not in any large numbers. We managed some half decent shots, but you can't get too close there. Both John and myself missed the actual meet there, but I had a good day the day before. It's certainly a site I want to return to.

I've never been to Orkney, but 'm sure it would offer the better opportunities for Puffins.

Hi Andrew

There is no need to go that far. The Farne Islands host usually around 35,000 of them and you can get down eye ball to eye ball with them. Here is a link to what i am talking about. Seahouses - Farne Islands Boat Trips

Yep that looks pretty inviting and I think 75,000 should be enough

Don't forget that you will also come face to face with attacking Arctic Terns as well and the photo opportunities for those birds are amazing.

I have only been to the Farnes once but that was in Autumn so haven't witnessed the breeding season there. That might be a trip I could be up for as well.

Here are a few links that may be worth looking at.

Paul Glendell, Photographer - Farne Islands
BBC - Tyne - In Pictures - Farne Island seabirds
ENGLISH NATURE - Image library : Search results
Farne Islands - Seabird Archive

Re: W.A.B Titchwell day out

I'm going out to the welsh islands again this spring / summer - puffins guaranteed , plus the infamous camera kiling rib trip to grassholm for diving gannets - be happy to organise this as a wab meet if folk are interested.

Now thats one place that I had planned for me next year, perhaps we should work on a WAB trip to the Farne islands, hopefully to hit the best time for Puffins,Arctic Terns etc.....
