Re: When did you turn your heating on?

I was just hearing on the news that Germany had a really bad cold snap last night. The demand for power suddenly was so great that it caused power cuts in Germany, France and Italy. Poland and the Czech Republic have already seen snow. It seems that winter is on its way folks.

Great!!! Let's have a Good Cold Winter, for a change as we need one.
This morning was the first time I put the heating on, for 5mins, just to take the edge off, after I'd been out with the camera, over Tor Woods at 7am. The frost & mist were great.

we're still hmm-ing and ha-ing about putting ours on really low, as you say just to take the edge off.

Have a great time in the woods today. I know you will

Re: When did you turn your heating on?

I'd forgotten all about this thread when it suddenly occurred to me that since I'd started it it was high time I added my details into the poll. Just clicked 'Between November 12th and November 18th' as the time our heating went on.

Re: When did you turn your heating on?

I cant stand heating, so much so I refuse to have it in my house. The windows stays open all year no matter whats going on outside. I dont mind natural fires, but i dont think heating is good for anyone apart from the elderly.

I don't mean just for a few minutes but when you get the central heating running or start to use the fire regularly.

It's something we could perhaps do again next year to then be able to compare any changes.

I'll set the poll up to cover quite a few weeks so you might need to dig this thread out again using a search when the time comes to add your details, if you're interested.

Right now I have to say I'm tempted to have that extra cozyness in the house but am resisting valiantly so far

Right lets see if I can get this poll function to work...

When does one become elderly Bushcraft. I need it .. and I dont think I am elderly.. not yet anyway? I suspect you are a hardy young 'un .. just wait till you reach 45 or so and then see how cold you get.

Re: When did you turn your heating on?

Well, im 23 but I have always been 'old' or so im told. The heat issue must run in my family as most of us dislike it and even my grandad at 80+ years never had eating on. I rarely get a cold or the flue. I somtimes feel the cold but I just don't mind it. 45 is a mere spring chicken!!!

Just picked up on this - I was an early one about 8th October but I do live at about 280m (c1300 feet in old money) above sea level and we had our first frost on Septemebr 1st. In fact over the years we've recorded frosts in every month of the year. So please let me off - to offset the carbon emissions from the boiler I do walk to work every day.

Too many factors would have to be considered for a poll like this to be strictly accurate or representative but I'm hoping it will give a general idea and prove interesting, if nowt else
I havent got central heating just one gas fire in the living room.Put it on once last week but once it had taken the chill off I got too hot so switched off.Had it on twice this week in the evenings.I am lucky in a way as I live in a terrace of three houses and I am in the middle. My house is warmer than theres. We all have cavity insulation and the other 2 houses have central heating so they keep me warm.Even when my fire is on it is usually on the lowest setting
