Ah parties are a different matter. Can't beat a good rave or a free party in a woodland, quarry or a big field but when at home I like to chill out. |

I can't stop Listening to S.K.Krow at the moment, unusual harmonies and arrangements. Every time I listen to their music I hear something different.
I tried Magners the other day as the bar didn't have any ales, over hyped poor cider if you ask me, and I like a good cider. |

A blast from the past. Nor arf
I used to go to a club in Cheltenham called the Pavillion Club and that kinda summed up a Saturday night playlist there. Its Homer Simpson music innit. Though I don't know how Echo and the Bunnymen slipped in from my '80's section?
Gotta say like Garden Carpet I don't really listen to music much at all now, enjoying natural sounds more but when I do I'm still a Rock Chick |

| | | Re: WAB music!! For nice, restful, almost spiritual music, with angelic voices...you can't do better than the Mediaeval Baebes ! They were formed 10 years ago by Katherine Blake, who takes Middle Ages poetry and sets it to music. Their first album, Salva Nos, was fairly simple with regard to production, but was followed by Worldes Blysse, Undrentide, and The Rose, which showed more complexity. Arguably, their best album is their latest, Mirabilis, which was released this summer.
They're great gals to meet too, with no airs or graces, but bags of musical talent ! Their webbie is: Mediaeval Baebes - Official Website
That's all, Colin. |

That's all, Colin. | Have never come across them 'till now. Thanks for the link, Colin.
My lady & I will be going to the Tewkesbury Abbey gig hopefully. They don't need to use their sex to sell themselves, the souund is great.

Haha I've just played him some, he's done a lot of painful cringing and said "We can go if you want to". Not his thing but he loves me, bless him
Hey I went to see Morrissey with him in the spring. OK it was a fantastic gig actually. |

| | | Re: WAB music!! Don't you think there's a real lack of good venues in gloucs sheryl? The Axiom in Chelt was great til the owner decided to do a runner with the money. Apparently the Stroud fringe festival was good but I didn't make it. There's the guildhall in gloster but not so many good people on there these days. |

| | | Re: WAB music!! Just spotted this thread...... A great mix of tunes!
I just wanted to add a couple which somehow seem to have slipped through the net...
Pixies, Ride, Stone Roses debut album and singles (work of genius..)
Lamb - what a group, amazing festival experience. Shame they've split now
Aphex Twin - Selected ambient works
Portishead - Dummy, Unkle...
Then for a sunday morning in summer it's hard to beat Van Morrison - Moondance
More recent stuff includes Willy Mason (saw him in the Joiners, southampton where he played a superb set on his own) - modern folky with a bit of dylan about him
God the list goes on! People like James Taylor can be great as well. Lennon. etc etc
I couldn't get enough of Arctic Monkeys from their demo cd, then the album came out and it was a travesty compared to what it should/could have been. I can't listen to it. Oh well, plenty of other stuff
It's great to hear people enthusing about music! I think it is amazing (music and how it links people, that is..)
Oh, and Ian Brown's Back to Mine is pretty good as well.... Definately interesting. |

Trying to think of what I was into during the early years of The Jam instead... Ah yes, Japan of course and in complete contrast Two Tone!! Oh yes |

| | | Re: WAB music!! Thanks Gmsmith, if you like Pink Floyd then you will love these guys, they are as close to the real thing as you will ever get. I have been touring with them for the last 4 years and have seen the show way over 150 times and it still gives me goosebumps, pure brilliance.
As someone once said to me after a gig "Close your eyes and you could be at Earls Court!" DSOTW - Tribute to Pink Floyd |

| | | A Challenge Seeing as we have a music thread I'm going to exploit it...
A colleague is celebrating his birthday next month & has challenged the rest of us to make him a CD comprised entirely of songs with entomological titles. Off the top of my head I've already got: Butterfly on a Wheel by the Mission, Sugar Bee by Canned Heat, Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) by Offspring & Superfly (can't remember the artiste), oh and Human Slaves in an Insect nation by Bill Bailey. Anyone got any suggestions? (Please, no R Kelly-I Believe I can Fly, or Alysha Keys-Butterflyz, the man cannot stand R&B)

How about Bugs by Pearl Jam for the opener,
"I got bugs
I got bugs in my room
Bugs in my bed
Bugs in my ears
Their eggs in my head
Bugs in my pockets
Bugs in my shoes
Bugs in the way I feel about you"
Tarantula - Faithless
The Bugs Will Bite - Fila Brazillia
Spiders - Space
Beetles - Aphex Twin
Catching The Butterfly - The Verve
Butterfly - Kinobe
Grasshopper Unit - Beastie Boys
Day of the Locusts - Bob Dylan |

Oooh, change of name
Good suggestions from Sheryl & Andy. I've been given one more-The Bug by Dire Straits.
Not enough for a full CD yet though-especially after removing Tarantulas & Spiders from Andy's list (has to be insects...)

Moth - Audioslave
Dragonfly - Goldie
Blondie also did one called Dragonfly but it was a terrible song! (IMHO) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | < |
