| | | Re: Hedgelaying on trees that made ..at 7:30 I didnt see the trees that made britain and I only saw half of flying with falcons. What I saw of it though was really interesting! Its amazing when you see the falcons diving at 200mph, considering if we tried anythin like that it would hurt or kill us! .
Did anyone see the bit where the falcon was holding on to the food that the man was holding while they were falling. Apparently at one point it looked like the falcon was trying to kill the diver by steering towards the cliffs

Good program, amazing speed but it got a bit repetetive. Wish i'd watched the hedge laying now. |

Good program, amazing speed but it got a bit repetetive. Wish i'd watched the hedge laying now. | I was not overly impressed with the hedge laying programme...it was all a bit vague...highlight was prince charles for me....he was judging as they were his hedges.
I just wish the whole of the "trees that" series was a bit more serious and in depth.....its seems to me the series is more about the 2 guys from kew...there antics and jokes and teasing......id rather a narrated series of docs about each british tree species in depth...
All they do in this series is pick a species....Get in the knackered white fourtrack 4wd ( which worries me ...the two HEAD tree guys at kew and one has a car worth less than my heap) drive to one of the chosen trees....lark about while the younger guy climbs it...this segment lasts for like the first ten minutes of the show they off they go doing things like whiskey tasting or archery ...( ok i know the whiskey barrells and archery bows are wood but....)
A whole programme about englands hedgerows.....how old they are...then hedgelaying techniques and variations in regions would have been great?....they did not even once as far as i can see mention the importance of hedgrows for our native wildlife and nesting birds etc or how they are corridors from one area to another??.
I havent been impressed with this so called " Important new series" at all...and the fact i have missed one or two shows me that....as i dont miss anything that i feel is made well. |

| | | Re: Hedgelaying on trees that made ..at 7:30 The thing is that a series narrated by a series of docs would be of interest to most of our membership but probably not to the public at large, what is important about what john hamerton and co are doing is that the format is making the subject accesible to joe public who might then be inspired to find out more...
btw the reason john drives a knackered fourtrak is because it is a working vehicle , if you do any ammount of tree surgery or for that matter any other form of contracting you dont want a nice motor as it gets bashed on things , dropped into holes , and spatered with mud, stones and other nasties.
