| | | Robin in a Hoodie A new Robin Hood series starts on the Beeb on Saturday. I saw some clips from it this morning and I dunno... They're trying for a 21st Century take on the story apparantly (??). Not so much Robin Hood as Robin in a Hoodie as the newscaster put it. Hmmm...
Who is your Robin Hood?
For me its Michael Praed/Jason Connery in Robin of Sherwood. Loved the Hearn connection, the atmospheric Clannad music and OK I'll admit it both the actors who played the part were both gorgeous
The new one, well of course I'm going to watch it anyway but I have a feeling I'm gonna miss that magic. |

| | | Re: Robin in a Hoodie Richard Green for me - and I hope the kids get as much fun from the new series as we did from the old one. A bit of escapism with a moral tale in there somewhere is quite a good combination.

And Hern, my Man But then Cernunnus goes very Deep. From the trailer shown I'm not sure I'll be watching it all the way through.

The name 'Robinhood' or 'Robehod' occurs from 1261 onwards in English doucments and was used as shorthand for an outlaw, so originating from a time when the 'old ways' were still to some extent part of the culture of the time. Even if the Christian tradition was heavily in the process of eclipsing them. For the English under Norman/Christian overlordship, it seems reasonable that such an outlaw would defiantly hold to the ways of their Anglo Saxon roots and beliefs.
I daresay there will be none of that in the new series. |

Cernunnus is even older that the Celts, he goes back to the time of the Long Ice.

Cernunnus is even older that the Celts, he goes back to the time of the Long Ice. | I'm very interested in the history of these Islands we now call Britian, both natural and cultural. On the natural side the time of the Wildwood is particularly compelling to me.
My favourite human historical period is the so called Dark Ages, dating from "The coming of the English" in 410 CE after the Romans finally gave up defending our shores (woohoo!), up untill 1066 when flippin' William of Normandy spoilt it all again
Robin Hood is a bit late for me but I still find the story very interesting. Historically speaking I totally give up with the Tudors. Its the wild times for me
Cernunnus, even older that the Celts you say. Where can I find out more?
The book you mention sounds interesting, I'll look out for it and honeybee regards the Susan Cooper books, do tell |

Written by Tony Robinson BTW - the one of Blackadder and Time Team fame, I think. It would explain a lot. Arf! |

As I don't feel settled in my flat, I've stiil book & papers in boxes. Give me time & I'll get some info to you. One thing I do know, is that images of him have been found in Denmark, Norway & Sweden, dating from around 8000 BC. pre Celtic arrival in Northern Europe.
I'll get into the cupboard over the weekend & see what I can come up with for you.
It sure is the wild times for me as well

And it's Ivanhoe

Shakey sets and what not but I still have a real soft spot for the spirit if the thing.
I used to really love a series called "The Tomorrow People" when I was a kid (before your time I expect). I tried to watch a re-run of that a little while back I guess when I saw it the first time my imagination did most of the work | | | | |
