What is your natural environment?

Where do you feel most at at home?

For me its British Broadleaf Woodlands (high forest). The more Ancient the better and near lakes and rivers. Yet I don't like salt water and the Sea at all, even though I am interested in what lives in there. Some how its alien territory for me *shrug*

But you may love it?
Or perhaps its the Moors for you or the Mountains?
Or even the city?

Do tell

Re: What is your natural environment?

for me it can be any type of natural environment - anywhere where you can hear birds singing, insects buzzing and no cars or people (I wouldn't mind bumping into the occasional like-minded WABer )

Re: What is your natural environment?

Ancient Boreal Forest like the Bialowieskiej on the Poland Belaruss border, I spent 6 months there in 1985. Wolves, wisent, boar, lynx, Beaver & tarpan all in that forest , I didn't want to come home, it felt like I was born there but that's another story. I also like rugged landscape, mountains, rocks & valleys, where I can see the Eagle soar. I need space to see the sky.

Ah yes you mentioned Bialowieskiej in a post I replied to on WATW but it don't seem like many people frequent the site yet.

Re: What is your natural environment?

A lot of the time I think my natural envronment is under the duvet.....
However, when out about, there's something about heathland. I felt weirdly right at home when I was working in Suffolk for 6 months.....

Re: What is your natural environment?

I agree with you Sheryl, got to have a bumbleing (sp?) brook going through it though and many types of native tree. I could live in it and do woodcraft, coppicing the hazels and such like, build a log cabin, a tree house.........Ahhhhhhhhh
Back to reality, I agree with Gill, under the duvet is a great place to be

Its amazingly difficult to get permission to build a log cabin or any type of house in a British wood, or I'd be off living in one like a shot! Bowdie would insist on there being a broadband connection before he could cope with it though

I remember watching a very interesting episode of Grand Designs where a chap called Ben Law (with a little help from his friends) built a very cool house from sweet chestnut right in the middle of the woods. It was only due to the nature of his work - he needs to be on site to keep an eye on things all the time - that it was allowed (the only reason the authorities will accept as I understand it). Hang on I'll go find a link...

Here's one: Linky

See, that would do for me. What a great lifestyle (a girl can dream...)
Keep meaning to get hold of one of his books, they look interesting.

Under the duvet Gill? Oh yes, but in my little house in the woods

Didn't he only get to do this on the understanding that it's demolished when he leaves or dies?

I believe he could pass it on to his son if he continues to do the same work but otherwise yes you're right I think. Don't quote me on that though.

Thanks for reminding me of WATW . Have just been over there & you're right about the low numbers of folks.

Just had an email from a friend, Janisk, who lives in Bielsk Podlaski, on the edge of the Bialowieskiej, inviting me to his wedding in February . He is a Forest Warden there, he's told me to bring cold weather gear, as the wedding feast is taking place in the old Hunting Lodge in the forest, and to get there we'll be using horse drawn sleighs as no cars are allowed If all comes together I'll be there for Imbolc.
I don't believe it, I now need to get some real cash coming in if I'm going to do both the wedding & CLCT trips.

Re: What is your natural environment?

I love Exmoor, it's people, the villages, the woods, the river valleys, the moorland, and of course the wildlife within the moor.

It's just a great place Sheryl, we now have Wild Boar and a few of the big cats that look suspiciously like your Avatar

It never ceases to amaze me just how easily I can fall asleep in the pub despite all of the noise and people about me. So maybe its the pub for me?

Re: What is your natural environment?

My natural environment is my wee cottage at the end of a dirt track in a no horse village on the edge of the Wash... and if that isnt specific enough.. I too am a devout duvet devotee and spend many a happy hour communing with its comforting folds.

I don't know about Lucky as at the moment I'm on benefit, as I say, I need to get proper work to do these trips. The odd gig here & there only keeps the wolves(human variety) from my door. I don't drive, though I wish I could sometimes, because I'd make a lousy driver, hey! Look at that buzzard... I'm in my 59th year & who would employ an ageing ancient hippy with a green beard?

A green beard? Whachu got growing in there then my friend?

I kinda know what you mean, I can't get back to work before the new year myself and even at 45 you kinda end up at the back of the queue work wise, unless you're already established. I can drive legally speaking, having past my test but I don't think I'm a safe driver, so I dont anymore. Its a reaction time thing with me and growling a big lorries that cut me up.

All pretty restrictive at the moment.

I really love old pasture land, all bumpy and overgrown with a stream running through it

A while ago, Beithe drew a cartoon of me with a pair of birds nesting in my beard. One bird saya to the other "There, I told you this is an environmentaly friendly place."

As to the Green Beard, when I can get into Glaston. & see my computer mate, I'll get him to do some scanning for me & then I'll post the results or you can go & see Chris Senior's site Chris Senior's Photo Galleries at pbase.com & check out the Green Events.
