Matt has just about summed up my perfect environment, so all of that plus South facing chalk downland or marshland with ditches crammed with damselflies and dragonflies. Julie

Re: What is your natural environment?

Lothingland, my local patch. I could not go anywhere else, there is so much to see & so many places to visit I could never tear myself away. For those with Maps my territory is TM 59 Lowestoft,, North to Great yarmouth & west to Beccles, south to the River Hundred at Kessingland. AKA Lizard Land. This is not my web site although I do contribute to it.

Again it is where I am now .... sunny south cheshire, not especially brilliant for anything in particular around here but there is easy travel to all the places I want to go to.

Re: What is your natural environment?

My natural environment is outside in the countryside anywhere.
Having said that though my 'ideal' natural environment would be the Isle of Mull
I fell in love with the island earlier this year thanks to Phil (on this site) and Eagle Watch. If I had the money to move now I would do it without hesitation

A place that I have spent many happy hours is amongst the Silver-studded Blues on The Great Orme in North Wales, the screams of the seagulls and the musical rattling and whirring of the the cables and rollers on the funicular tramway also helps it seem to be a magical place.

I'd like to step in a time-machine and nip back a few thousand years to to the time of the 'Wildwood'. Woodlands are my habitat especially the broadleaves. That's where I head for when I need re-charging!

I'm also partial to the remaining Calidonian Pine forests that still clad some of the lower slopes of Northern Cairngorms.

Half way up a sea cliff. Fulmars and Peregrines up close, dolphins splashing about beneath you. At times peacefully calm at others seriously intimidating, always dynamic and never dull. Never any crowds of H.sapiens -

Wildwood - oh how I wish... that would be perfect.
Never been to the Calidonian Pine forests but it does look amazing up there.

With you on that, Alan. Have you seen Hugh Miles's 'Great Wood of Caledon' well worth seeing. I've always been a Wildwood man, even as a boy. That's what I miss here in Somerset.

Re: What is your natural environment?

I have just been driving alongside the Nene Cut.. from Sutton Bridge to the Wash.. and I saw a seal! In five years that is the first I have seen, of course no camera and the bins in the car ought to be the bins in the bin. Cant say what sort it was but I got four sightings of it. Wonderful... across the other side of the river.. a pair of jays and a couple of kestrels... oh happy day
Is it any wonder this has to be my natural environment

Re: What is your natural environment?

Broad leaved woodland for me .. I love it at any time of year .. there is always something of interest going on and the atmosphere is magical.

But I must admit to being greedy and I do love the chalk hillsides of the Surrey downs and I have also spent many a pleasant hour sitting by a streamside watching damsels and dragonflies and doing nothing in particular. Most pleasant. I love 'em all.

I like diferent places dependant on my mood.
One place I adore though, is Kingley Vale, it's so peaceful and the yews there are spectacular!

Re: What is your natural environment?

Anywhere were I can see and here wildlife..and smell the earths smell not that of cars and pollution.

As few people as possible no music blaring away..and a huge vast sky to look up at.
That's the day - at night. No street lights, and masses of sky full of stars and the sound of the owls calling to each other, waders out on the tide and a full moon to view it all by!

Is this Heaven? I hope so.

Re: What is your natural environment?

Yes, I'm primarily a woodland man - always something to see and less cold in the inter than exposed moors and crags. My second choice though are limestone meadows and dales - they have similar flora and fauna to chalk but are themselves much more interesting - more serious landscape - higher climbs .... hmmm

Coastal sand dunes for me - little house nestling behind them with a huge sky and lots of weather and wildlife.

So why do I live in Hertfordshire, you chorus

Re: What is your natural environment?

I like anywhere wild and open, moorland or coastal. However, my little cottage tucked away in a small village which is nevertheless close to all amenities (as the estate agents say) suits me very well.
Living in the North East, when I travel I invariably head further north and west, which says something about the kind of places I like. I could easily live in a gypsy caravan with wood burning stove, don't need much else in the way of modern living.

This sounds like where my parents live, Montana, big sky country it is called. The only thing is, they don't get the tide..........

Re: What is your natural environment?

It's got to be the Lincolnshire wolds for me. I live on the edge of the wolds and love nothing better than to get out for a walk onto the wolds. Peace and solitude are the order of the day especially on an early morning walk when all that can be heard are the Skylarks singing above and other birds calling from time to time. It's a lovely place to relax and take in those big blue skies that Lincolnshire is known for and be alone with your own thoughts.

Many people have the idea that Lincolnshire is flat and boring. There certainly aren't any mountains but there are hills a plenty and it's far from boring.
Roger

Re: What is your natural environment?

Its very interesting to see what a range of environments people feel most at home in. So many great examples. It also shows what diverse and interesting places we have in this country. Makes me want to visit them all. Though tonight, under duvet is first on my list
