Singing friend

Ok before i get jumped on this is not nature related hence the tree house posting.

In my other life im a musician...and one of my friends Ben Mills is currently storming his way through this years X factor. ( No i dont normally watch rubbish like this either but as a friend is competing i am)..He is the long haired 26 year old who sounds like joe cocker/rod stewart..and so far Louis...Sharon osbourne , paula abdul and Simon Cowell all loved him...he is now in sharons "over 25's" group.

And anyone local to me ( wild woman etc) he is from whitstable and his local band is called Benzego ( they play all local music pubs) ...So if your ever watching x factor keep an eye out for our ben !

To convince a UFO to land in your shed would be a way of winning x files ( you muppet ) but being able to sing on par with rod stewart or joe cocker sadly means nothing in the processed teen driven rnb only world of x factor so who knows....Plus he has natural shaggy long hair and not some strange spikey waxy gell filled mess of a mop that seems the must have these days....so hes doomed...But im hoping this time some of the muso/ real talent aware mums and dads may vote for him this time ?

Re: Singing friend

Hi Dan,

My ladyfriend was talking about going to a friend's house to watch X Factor this evening. It seems she's rooting for Ben, she says She has confidence thath he can do it, he's so natural & easy to listen to, the best there is there.

I mentioned your mate but couldn't remember his name, so I logged on. When I read out yoru post she said that's him, he's great, & when I said that he came from Whitstable she laughed as so does she. She's texting her daughter there, to tell her to watch tonight. And, I'll be watching tonight for the first time, I'm under orders

Re: Singing friend

Oh thats great Earth heart......he is tipped to win by all the bookies but im not sure as he was plastered all over the front pages of the papers last week after self confessing to having had a bit of a coke habit in the past ? ( Shock horror a rock musician who has done drugs?...please)...
Sharon and the rest seem to think it wont hurt his chances..he is truthful at least and front pages of the paper is great publicity either way?

Anyway...tonight will be the tell tale?...if he does well i guess he hasnt blown it ( and not all up his nose)
But yes....he is truly gifted...my drummer gigs with him a fair bit...and i almost dated his sister once but she wasnt really my type.

Come off it Dan!! He shouldn't be involved in drugs full stop.

And the attitude that" he's a rock singer so that's all right then" stinks.

Personally I hope he wins and I hope he leaves drugs in his past...Good luck to him

Woah easy tiger....im merely saying his drug past may have blown his chances but i doubt it in this day and age...name me any band / musician including myself and we/they all have a drug past mostly...i too had a cocaine habit but i kicked it in 2001....

As far as the papers say ben also has had therapy for his habit and has been doing well....so i just hope now the panel/public concentrate on his amazing musical talent and not his past.
I didnt once say " Hes a rock singer so that alright then" my point was the papers make a big thing out of the fact a rock star or artist has taken coke....but is that really any kind of shock in 2006? i know people from every walk of life who use cocaine including people who really shouldnt be ...its rife ...but thankfully i got out of that scene .

I too hope he wins and that he leaves the drugs in the past...He is better than that. As sharon stated "He is a young guy, he has toured all over europe with the L.A.Doors tribute band ( all friends of mine) ...its no suprise he has dabbled with drugs..he is a normal musician who has lived a bit" im not saying its wrong or right im just telling people it goes with the territory and i know all too well.

Ben is GRRREAT!!! The best I've heard in a long, long time. As Loui said, we need someone like him Now. I've sent my text, the first time I've ever done that.

I think he's pretty good, although not as good as he is being made out to be by the judges

Its almost annoying for me as a friend of bens as you are only seeing half of his talet/act as he is foremost an amazing hammond/fender rhodes/piano player ( and guitar) he is more at home sat behind the hammond and singing in the same way stevie wonder/procal harum/dr robert/jools holland etc....
So i feel for him a little bit...i have never been onstage without my guitar round my neck i would feel naked and only half armed just on my tod.

Exactly mate, they should let people do whatever they want, if they wanna just sing then fine, but if they can play guitar/piano etc then why on earth can't they

Personally i love bands with an edge to them, not the Keanes of this word. It seems to me they try to play safe, knowing that they will sell X amount of records, rather than letter talent go, sure it may fail but it could be amazing

iTS SOMETHING THAT HAS BUGGED ME FOR YEARS? the whole "no instruments" thing on these talent tv shows?...i mean MOST of the greats in music/rock history perform with an instrument and many like ben were masters not just of their voice but of their instrument ( i talk as a guitarist and im thinking of hendrix, clapton, john martyn, james taylor, joni mitchell etc ...of course elvis presley ) and then you had stevie wonder, ray charles, lionel ritchie, and all the other performers with a keyboard...elton john etc....
I wish they did a real musicians X factor type thing....or even just for us musicians a best of their instrument talent show...like best guitarist, drummer, pianist, etc etc

but yes....back to the point....I feel ben has a talent over all of the rest as far as i know the others are all JUST singers....ben is great at that but also a very talented musician.

Re: Singing friend

I play guitar to and have done for 6-7years now and you do get a new found respect for people who can do it very well whilst singing

The Real X factor idea is a good one. One for unsigned Bands and singers doing there own stuff would be good
