Personally, I'd want to get to know the indigenous wildlife and landscape first.
Certainly No cats.

weren't there were only two of them.. and as I recall they were white mice.. I can cope with them not the plague of field mice I have at the moment.. it isnt nice going to get a bowl from the shelf to find mousecrement on it.. nor is it nice having to scrape the darn stuff off the toaster!!!! So I guess you could say... no... I do not like mice!!!!!!

| | | Re: New world Here's me in party-pooper mode again. If humans found a place worth colonising, wouldn't there already be wildlife there? In which case, surely, the answer would be 'Take nothing!'. The biggest problems with environmental destruction in the world that we have have been caused by immigrants (mainly European) taking their 'own' fauna with them - the things which you should definitely *not* take are cats, goats and Rabbits but best to adapt to what's there already? | | Re: New world That's clear then!
But the white mice were cunningly disguised so perhaps yours are testing your ability to live without a toaster?
Maybe the whole ecosystem is a test of our ability to cope with animals, plants and fungi so, when we learn to tolerate grey squirrels and athletes foot, we shall have the secret of the Universe and not need to worry about colonising other places??????? Quote: |

*spoilsport*
Since we are not likely to be going to such a place, can we just imagine we are.. and the animals we would like to take with us.. a la dessert island disks?? Please Paul??? Given all your very pertinant points.. what would your list be for an imaginary world with nothing .. not even a microbe .. already there |

Moose : because they have impressively large antlers
Wolfies: just because, (those that know me well will know that you never have to have a reason to take wolfies)
Baby Albatross: to have something more stupid looking than me
heffalumps: to have something that is easy to find to photography
Great Grey Owls: for wisdom , and because they make cool noises
Doormouse : because they are so cute when they are asleep
