Hi Again,
Another insect I need help identifying. This is a photo which I took in Kefalonia, I know this isn't British wildlife but I haven't been able to find out what this is anywhere, I tried the BBC but got no reply. I found this giant cricket at the top of a mountain. The hand, which is about 10cm across, gives a good indication of the size. I haven't got a clue what it is, anyone have any idea.

There's one in Chinery that looks similar, Saga pedo. |

Definately a species of Saga. Four species occur in Greece. These are Saga campbelli, Saga hellenica, Saga natoliae, Saga rammei. Not sure which occur on Kefalonia.
By the way this is a predatory species. It used the spines on it's front legs to hold down it's prey. |

I'm not sure I would've picked it up now knowing that it's predatory!
