Kites

Does anyone else fly kites?

We have a few stunt kites, made by "Prism". Well recommended. We bought them in California, and flew them on a small Hawaiin island called Molokai.

These are the mother of all kites, and are devils in the air. What I do enjoy is skimming the kite barely inches above the ground. They are sooooo fast, and are capable of fantastic things.

Re: Kites

Yes I fly a kite but am a bit of a novice and tend to scare young children. My niece however (5 years old) is a seasoned pro. Mine is a little more technical than hers - a stunt kite and quite hard to master but great fun on Cannock Chase.

LOL. I must confess though, I do fly the kite with my other half, and he's definitely the experienced one!

Re: Kites

I remember watching a Gran and Grandad with their two young grandchildren on Filey beach a couple of years ago, trying to launch a kite. The kids weren't quite old enough really to understand the logistics of the exercise and the Grandad became crosser and crosser, as his attempts at launching failed. Hardly, the desired relaxing day at the seaside, but it was quite amusing to watch!!!.

What's it like here in the UK regarding stunt kites, and purchasing them, plus the odds and sods for them? Are there any suppliers you would recommend?

As I said, we bought our kites in the States, and have never attempted to buy any over here.

Re: Kites

I have friends in the UK and I know they buy their kites there and sometimes when they know what the want they do it on-line, you can find everything you want kites wise.

Re: Kites

My wife and I both have double line stunt kites, which we enjoy flying whenever possible. I also fly a large single line kite from which I hang a camera to take aerial photographs of archaeological sites. Have a look here: kap.

Greens Kites of Burnley supplied the KAP kit. We bought the stunt kites from Windseekers in Wells next the Sea in Norfolk. There are plenty of kite shops around, often tucked into litle corners of shopping centres.

Re: Kites

I used to fly them with my father - years ago now - had great fun! Would love to take it up again, very addictive I seem to remember!
