| | | Sky Tv The big day is on Saturday, when the engineer installs SKY and hopefully wires up and tunes everything in.
Q.
Why do the require a phone line?
They state that it must be connected for 1 year. I presume it is so I can buy viewing on their films. THAT WONT HAPPEN. So what other pit falls should I look out for?
What happens if I press the RED button when they anounce it? Will I get a huge BT bill?
Help please

| | | Re: Sky Tv Kev, the interactive features (games, voting, etc) will request a connection to a premium rate number to allow the relevant charge - 75p, I think for BT, to be raised.
Of course, you always pay your bills, or you'll be talking to me |

I think I am the only bloke of 35 that has never subscribed to Sky. Just not interested |

| | | Re: Sky Tv I swear I'd chew the furniture without sky. I like watching the obscure little channels from countries I'd never heard of, and of course if you're a nature lover, National Geographic and Discovery Animal Planet are spot on
I occasionally vote for bands that my friends are in on the music channels, and it informs you when you're going online and how much the call will cost. |

I think I am the only bloke of 35 that has never subscribed to Sky. Just not interested | I'm 58, and for quite a time I wondered about Sky but you have to have their packages.
If I could just have Discovery, Nat. Geo. and Animal Planet then I would subscribe, but as I can't Sky can stuff it. I do have a digi box and again I wonder why, so many repeats with only the odd good prog. |

I dont rate sky as 70% of the channels are garbage or foreign or bid tv style ones...telewest seems to be more selective with less of the junk....one channel i do watch a lot ( apart from the obvious discovery, real time, animal planet, national geo etc) is a channel called Community Channel which covers a heap of uk conservation projects and world conservation and biodiversity issues...! very good. but as with ALL sky/satellite/cable channels they seem to be on a 4 hour loop....which doesnt change for days....i can watch the same episode of river cottage four times in a long day on the same channel !....i love hugh but come on......? |

I dont have a tv either.. and I am just embarking on another round of.. 'why dont you listen to me when I tell you I dont have a TV/Take me to your leader' type conversations with them. They say the way to do it is to write to them and tell them... but that doesnt work either... I have tried it. I have sent their threatening envelopes back to them with I DONT HAVE A TV in huge red letters on the top. That didnt work either. I am going to try the 'dont get back to me again or I will instruct my solicitors ' trick. Will that work I wonder.
One of their recent arguements was that they were working off a Post Office database that has my old house name. I changed the name three years ago!!! The post office send monthly updates to tv licencing and they still cant get it right

| | | Re: Sky Tv I don't see why anyone would want one of those ugly satellite dishes or watch some of Sky's ugly programmes - far better to have cable on which all the programmes mentioned are available without having Sky programmes forced on you (if you're so demented as to want them then you can pay separately). Telewest (now with NTL soon to be Virgin) does quite nice bundles of television/unlimited broadband/cheap telephone calls [and soon to incorporate mobiles?] which make the alternatives, bought as separate items, seem incredibly expensive ..... | | | Re: Sky Tv Also Telewest don't charge to come and do repairs if something goes wrong (unless it's obviously your fault). Sky charge for a lot more things like repairs and stuff. Is worth getting their packages, broadband, phone and TV, works out a lot cheaper. |

Not at all interested. 99% of TV is rubbish in any case. Jules

Unfortunately some of us DEMENTED people do not have cable facilities in our area or full coverage of std TV channels and no digital signal. The ones we can get are of a poor reception quality. So we have to put our demented hands in our demented pockets to pay for the television programs that the non-demented people get for free |

Unfortunately, I was eventually persuaded to get a telly. I hardly ever watch it, but in spite of that I must have seen that footage of wildebeest running the gauntlet of the crocs at a river crossing about 5 times in supposedly new wild-life programmes. There are some on this forum who think that telly is educational. I still say it is shallow. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
