| | | Exmoor late september - any tips? Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum for it but..
I'm on Hols with the wife around the 22nd of this month, staying at Wheddon's Cross in Exmoor NP - a little south of Porlock / Minehead area.
Can anyone recommend some areas we should walk / wildlife spot or any decent attractions that may be of a wildylife type interest to us please?
Thanks alot.

Lucky you Toby - I've spent many an hour in this area which is abundant with wildlife from deer to Adders, butterflies to blackberries and the South West Coast Path starting at Minehead - http://www.westcountrywalks.co.uk/faq.htm - plus you've the Coleridge Way - http://www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/coleridgeway - and the villages of Dunster and of course Porlock itself. I don't think you'll be struggling for places to go, and things to see. No doubt a few more members (from that neck of the woods will give you a few tips).
Happy holiday. Tink |

| | | Re: Exmoor late september - any tips? Oh lucky you! We've been down there on a few occasions too - round Porlock - some of those little back roads are downright gorgeous. Then there's Dunkery Beacon and Selworthy Beacon and the views and sunsets. . . have a walk in Horner Wood which is at (if memory serves) West Luccombe - its right behind the lovely carvan site we like to stay at (whose name has gone right out of mind for the min - the old grey matter is useless these days. . .) Horner has a lot of different bat species - maybe around 14 species. And the 23rd Sept is National Moth Night so there may be an open event somewhere that you could attend. The fungi should be in fine fettle too in Sept and again Horner Wood is old and very special. Enjoy! |

Around Dunkery Beacon Porlock side is always good for deer, Stoke Pero,Luccombe,Ley Hill will all hold deer, at the time of year you are going there will be a lot of people watching the rut.
So take some binoculars and look for groups of people, and head towards them, also listen for the roaring!!!!! | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
